Best ratcheting wrenches everBeing a mechanic I have used several ratcheting wrenches this is by far the best set of wrenches that I have ever had the fact that you can hold nut and be able to turn it in tight spaces is fabulous and the degree of turn on the ratcheting side is great I love these wrenches so much that I am going to get the metric set also5If you could only buy one wrench set, you've found it. As a certified master tech and German specialist I have a LOT of different tools, and these wrenches are AWESOME! I'm always looking for new tools which can save me time and make my life easier, and these wrenches definitely help. Now, as a master tech with a lot of tools, I know there is no tool that works in every situation. I'm a big fan of ratcheting wrenches, especially the big ticket high tooth count wrenches. For years my go-to ratcheting wrench has been Matco's 9 Series wrenches which have 90 teeth and one of the lowest swing arcs available (only the new SK X-Frame beats them). They also feature a spline drive on the ratcheting end so they fit multiple types of fasteners. So, while I have better ratcheting wrenches, these wrenches are excellent, and I wouldn't be sad if they were my only set. I put these to the test for about a month and only used these and I never had a problem. They can take a crap load of torque, they're one of the most comfortable wrenches I've tried, and they look super cool (which is important in the shop environment...).But the reason I bought these, and the reason you should too is on the other end of the wrench. Wera's innovative open end is beyond helpful to technicians. The backing plate is a godsend. I wish every wrench had this on it because it would make a lot of jobs a lot easier. But the real winner is the multi-tooth open end. As Wera points out their wrench only takes 30 degrees to turn, as opposed to the traditional 60 degrees. In tight spots this is worth a million dollars. Sometimes the nut or bolt just doesn't want to come out easily, even after being broken loose, but there isn't enough room to reposition the wrench. Not anymore! Just today I was having a hard time getting an AC line loose on an older Mercedes. I was trying my traditional wrenches, then my Knipex pliers, then I grabbed a Joker and got it off in a few seconds. I was so happy. This wrench set it worth every penny to the master tech and even the weekend warrior. If you only had room or the money for one wrench set then this needs to be it.Some programming notes: The wrenches are made in the Czech Republic, which doesn't bother me as the price reflects that. My Matco wrenches are three times the price of these and they're made in Taiwan... The satin finish is really cool as it stands out from the drawers and drawers of chrome, but it's a little harder to clean, and I like clean tools. The bag that comes with the set is super heavy duty and is super handy as I don't have a ton of room in my box, and as I don't use them every day it helps to store them in it. 5Best-made ratcheting combination wrench set on the marketWera tools are ridiculously expensive compared to most consumer tools, but they're competitive with other pro-grade tools. My husband is an avid hobbyist and I'm always on the lookout to find tools I know he'll find useful for his projects. We don't have a lot of space, and his entire tool collection - power tools included - fits into the bottom half of a small closet in our tiny apt. Adding a set of tools often means making room by getting rid of something else. This is the second set of Joker wrenches we've bought, so we now have both SAE and metric sizes.Beyond a doubt, Joker combination wrenches are the greatest invention since the ratchet. A Joker wrench can fit into tight spaces where sockets dare not go and the ratcheting action works even better, given that the lever action is in line with the bolt head or nut on which it's used. If only someone could design an open-ended ratcheting wrench, but that's understandably pretty much impossible. Still, Wera Joker wrenches have a twelve-point open-end design that dramatically improves their usability. It's the next best thing.I highly recommend Wera tools. They're pro-grade instruments that are as well-made as the best of them and at a reasonable price for their value. Wera tools are built to last a lifetime and they're precise. It's not uncommon for a cheaper consumer-grade wrench to be off by a millimeter or more, usually being too loose, which leads to excessive wear on the nut and, ultimately, a nut that can't be removed using any wrench. Cheaper tools sometimes break. It's always a surprise to see what appears to be a solid hunk of steel that suddenly fractures like a brittle bone. Wera tools are made from top-quality stainless and heat-treated and forged into tools that are stronger than just about anything by perhaps diamonds. We wouldn't buy anything else.5Does what it is designed to do. Fabulous Wrench Set!The Joker series of wrenches do what they are designed to do extremely well. Holding bolts or nuts inside the wrench to assist in fitting the two pieces together is absolute genius. I first laughed at the name and the price but after realizing how many times I needed something like this, I wasn t laughing any more. Had to replace a circulator pump with two hidden bolts at the bottom. Always fought in the past getting something to hold the bolt and center them in place. Now all I need to do is place the bolt into the open end side sliding it into two smartly designed slots, a plate keeps it from passing through the wrench. After sliding the bolt into place, you flip the wrench over and tighten with a 12 point 3 degree turn box end ratchet to tighten. What a major time saver. Not only is the tool functional, but comfortable to hold and comes in a heavy duty Velcro case. They come in metric or imperial (SAE) sizes. I got the SAE 4 most common wrenches, 7/16,1/2,9/16,&3/4 set. Definitely a great set of tools to have!54 months of use with industrial mechanic.I work as an industrial mechanic so I use these everyday. Material is solid and very comfy. I enjoy them being straight with no offset so after I break a bolt or nut loose I can go on it straight on like a nut driver. The nut holding aspect has helped me quite a few times in tight spots. Being in food production I'm required to deep clean my tools daily and so far only the stripes of colored paint has started to rub off.5I have been consistently impressed with Wera tools and liked the thought that went into theseIt wasn't without reservations that I bought these wrenches. The price is certainly steep. I purchased a metric and SAE set for my field bag. I have been consistently impressed with Wera tools and liked the thought that went into these. The holders are great too.I pulled them out for the first time today and let the open end shine. I was working on a t but securing bolt in a tight 90deg bracket that wouldn't let a socket on as it was blocked by another head. The open end with its 12point like jaw let me easily maneuver the wrench on and off the head to get it right. These things work like a dream. I'm sold, if you're a tool nut or a professional just click buy.5Great wrenches but delicateI purchased these for an older Porsche I was restoring and they are great wrenches! However, with cars that are several decades old... we all know how some bolts or nuts can just be "frozen" or stuck on and they're going to take a bit of convincing to remove. I think the characteristics of the ratcheting mechanism that make them unique would break first. For this project I ended up used old fashioned steel ratchets, breaker bars, hammers, my feet, etc. These do work GREAT on a new Porsche that I have where bolts haven't seized up yet and they perform fantastically and get a good bite on the heads. I would purchase them again!4The best wrenches you can buy todayIt's hard to tell someone who works on Ikea shelves and desks why one would need a set of wrenches like these. You could get a spanner wrench set from Tekton for a fraction of the price and most people would be perfectly satisfied with them. But if you are a DIY mechanic, or a shop mechanic, or anyone who might need to reach for a wrench on daily basis, then you need something that's more versatile and saves you time. In walks Wera with their Joker wrench set. It is ironic because these wrenches are no joke. They mean serious business.First, they are lighter than you're average spanner wrench. Not a big deal but it makes a difference when you have to hold a bolt/nut up for several minutes. The ratcheting side also makes a big difference and although you can get cheaper ratcheting spanner wrenches, not all of them are built the same. The click is smooth and crisp and you get the feeling these will last a long time. You also get that feeling because they come with a lifetime warranty. The backing plate does two jobs. One, it can hold a nut up and help keep the wrench in place of a bolt. Two, using the traditional six point socket, it can dig it's teeth into the bolt or nut and provide extra grip to turn a stuck nut.For some reason, when I try to use that benefit on say a oil drain plug, it doesn't work as well and strips. Not every time, just a few case scenarios. In recall, it might be because some of those plugs have angled points. They're also quite a bit thin. Nice for holding a long time...not so nice for torquing in a nut as it's really painful on the hands. I also would have liked to have seen 20 and 24 mm wrenches in this set, at least the 24 because it's so common. That is actually my biggest complaint against these wrenches. Otherwise, they are well worth the price tag. If you have the need for a brilliantly engineered wrench set, I don't think I can recommend one more than this one right here.5Definitely Make Some Tasks EasierI initially loved the concept behind these wrenches and was very excited to buy them. Now that I have them I am a little less impressed than I expected. The finish on these wrenches are a dull grey which I like because I'm tired of the slippery polished chrome finishes but the finish has a few imperfections, the 'Wera Joker" logos aren't even centered on a couple of the wrenches and the color coded labels don't even wrap around the entire wrench, they have small gaps on the sides. The visual imperfections I do not care much about since I plan to use the set more than look at it. However, There are a couple functional problems here too. First, the ratcheting box end has a very well machined fit but the drag on the ratcheting action is higher than I expect in an expensive set. Secondly, the thickness in all directions of both the open and box end are larger than most wrenched which can be a problem in very tight places. Finally, while the joker design can eliminate the need for offset wrenches but there are some limited access applications where you must attack the fastener straight on and the design will not work as wera expected so it would have been nice to see the standard offset instead of the straight open end of these wrenches. That being said, I still very much like the Joker wrenches, I was removing some AN fitting in a hard to reach on a Citation and the Joker wrenches held very well and very much appreciated no having to flip the wrench each turn. I am also excited to use the holding function to sneak a nut behind panels to get started instead of my normal style of holding it between my index and middle finger where I might accidentally drop it and spend thirty minutes chasing the nut. Overall I like the set very much and am happy I finally pulled the trigger, Just know they aren't perfect4Worth the moneyIt's a lot to pay for a set of wrenches. Having said that they are literally the best wrenches I have ever used. I am a tradesman and a tool guy. I have lots of other sets of wrenches, but these are the tools that I use every day and don't lend out. I have a lot of other Wera hand tools and they are a step up, kind of like the "Festool" of hand tools. Really well made and thought out. As other reviewers have said, they are lighter than other wrenches, but at least as strong. I think this helps more with not dropping the tool when you're working in an awkward spot. They also have a clever built in "lip"on one side that is really useful for holding a nut. The ratcheting mechanism is silky smooth. And they seem to fit hardware better than my other wrenches. If you're a tradesman and you appreciate really well made tools, these are for you. If you're just doing stuff around the house, stick with Craftsman.5Adds to the typical "tool guy" with a collection of "impressive tools"I had to make a cliche out of the headline, could not resist. So I simply can say that I have Snap-On, Cornwell, Matco, MAC, Gearwrench, even some various HF tools, and a host of others that all have their position in my tool hierarchy. That said, when it comes to gear wrenches I mainly have Gearwrench and a replacement for two of them by Cornwell and Snap-On as they went missing. These WERA have a definite place in it all. Like some, being straight is not always ideal, but the open end with holder feature will go a long way, especially when in a tight space and when I used to use a piece of tape to hold a bolt or nut in the wrench...no longer needed. Overall the build quality is nice and I look forward to many years of service. To give you an idea of what I expect from my tools--- my original 1/2" ratchet was a Craftsman... lasted weeks and was replaced 6-times in as many months. I then spent an exorbitant amount of money on a 3-piece set of Snap-On ratchets--- 23-years later all three are still in my toolbox, never rebuilt, never broke, and work great. Quality tools like that and this set from WERA should be seen as an investment that will serve you over time and be there when you need them to be. Now all that I need is my new garage to be finished being built....and get back to what I love to do.5Another win for German engineering Good feel, nice finish, precision manufacturing to spec, and one of the finer ratcheting mechanism. The only negative is they aren't reversible. German engineered, manufactured in the Czech Republic. 5
