One StarVery Poor doc, Terrible download of software from site. Cheap for a reason. Do Not Buy1API is poorA python example and an API is provided on the website. However, it is unclear if the python API functions at all or is just poorly documented. I have been unable to integrate this device into a python project. The software provided works fine for simply reading messages on a bus.1full development resources availableAPI documentation and MSVC .lib, .dll, header files, and example code is available from their website.5I like the product but Windows 10 issues are having me seach for another solutionI purchased 2 of the units a while back and quickly got them working using the VCI API.Yes, there are language issues with documentation and the API but it didn't take long to resolve them.I like the device and it's features, such as 2 channels and isolation, plus the form factor is good.Problem is, after Windows 10 updates, there is no digital signature and the driver will not load.My company will not permit disabling digital signatures, so I'm dead in the water with these devices, which is unfortunate.I've tried a number of suggested fixes but none of them work (uninstalling, deleting the driver installation, deleting the files from Windows folders, reinstalling, etc). Same issue... digital signature.3Nice product with lots of application code examplesI bought this one to run a few tests and verify the performance. After a few days using it , I feel comfortable buying a few more for our system engineers. The ViewTool USB to CAN adapter supports a bunch of programming languages, I am impressed that it could support Android and Raspberry pi seamlessly. The viewtool website has a bunch of application codes that are very helpful.I am thinking of trying out some more of their products, the pricing is very reasonable and the quality seems good.5Missing com port driver. Hardware is fantastic!Needs better software support. Got it working on windows. Has great hardware isolation between Can bus and usb. But I was hoping for just a com port device driver for windows and Linux using this device. Then I could build software with my own filters.4Four StarsGood Product, Affordable for hobbyist.4Small tool with various functionsGreat product! It is very useful for my cell phone application. I will buy more for my other projects.5Documentation and UI are horrible. Nothing went wellDocumentation and UI are horrible. Nothing went well. Here are all of the issues I had:(1) The user manual has a link to load the software, but it is for the USB-I2C, not USB-CAN. I found it easily on their website, but why would you not validate your documentation.(2) When I downloaded the correct software, I was presented with a horrendous UI. All of the items were improperly scaled. Small check marks in boxes that were almost too small to see. Lines in a table that were compressed vertically and had to be manually resized to view.(3) The manual says that I should Initialize the interface as "shown below". But the figure just shows a screenshot of a window that is not readily obvious on the main window -- because all of the text is so squished that nothing is visible. And then when I finally found the "Init Device" button, it gave me a "Device Open Fail!" error. So I reloaded the drivers and software and got the same result each time. The documentation is worthless, and I therefore cannot use this product. I am returning it.1No documentation, custom baud rates are problematicUPDATE:I changed this from 1 star to 4 stars for two reasons:1. Their email tech support responded in less than 24 hours2. They had a solution that worked with minimal fussThey recommended replacing the Classic version of Viewtools with the Extended version, which already had the baud rate I needed, and worked out of the box. They also have documentation on their website that helped me understand the custom baud rate parameters. I would have given them 5 stars, but the documentation on filter setup is still a bit vague. It could use a few real-life examples showing screen shots of filter settings and corresponding capture results.Otherwise, it's a nice little tool. I like the screw terminals, rather than having to convert from a DB9. Based on my minimal web research, it appears to have comparable functionality to a GridConnect unit which costs over $600 for hardware and software.Recommended.________________________________________________________ORIGINAL REVIEW:I hate to say this is junk, for $56. The software appears to allow a custom baud rate, but without documentation it is impossible to figure out how. I am using the USB-CAN Classic off the seller's website. Not recommended.4
