Customer Reviews

then they're pretty good with good features for a good priceIf you have gone through the mess of learning the myriad eccentricities of Ubiquiti systems, then they're pretty good with good features for a good price. That said, they're non-standard and the Ubiquiti folks haven't quite worked out the kinks yet (like using a non-sequel Db for their controller, which is crash prone and a challenge to rebuild each time it crashes, and Micro SD ports in the cameras for back-up, with no way to program them to back up to the cards). But the APs are pretty good and have very good coverage. They do not do all that they advertise, though, such as seemless hand off between related APs as one moves through the building.3Great product for small business.Installed this on our medical office's network to allow good wifi for employees. We have a cisco enterprise firewall and switch network serving about 100 peripherals. We try to keep computer costs as a low as possible so chose against cisco's AC router, which has higher upfront costs plus recurring licensing. For the sub-300 we paid for this plus less than an hour of IT install time this hotspot has worked like a charm. On two occasions in 6 months it seems to have fallen off the domain, which was corrected by us just doing a power-cycle on the unit (this is important because we are just barely complex enough that IT pretty much has to be called whenever something needs troubleshooting, and it was probably our domain server that fouled up not this unit). When near the unit the AC connection is faster than ethernet wire. We only have one region of the office networked wifi right now but will be adding on some units in the near future. When I finally get around to updating my home I will get a couple of these to cover the place.5Great company and conceptGreat company and concept. Needs a little work maybe firmware or something. The range is not that great. I have 2 of these in my house one on the ceiling and the other on the wall. My Asus still out performs these by range. But these look great and the interface is second to none!4Too bad the v2 hardware still has the same problems as ...Power issues, heat issues. I took a gamble after my first one died in six months when I heard there was a revision to the hardware. There has been several software upgrades since then as well. Too bad the v2 hardware still has the same problems as the v1, it just doesn't get quite so hot due to the reduced power consumption (this killed the first unit). Their other units work great, but their AC hardware just isn't up to par. Definitely not worth what they are asking for. I would recommend a different vendor if you need an AC access point.Getting it to the power levels specified in the tech specs for the unit requires having to manually set it via SSH. Even at this power level the coverage is terrible even on the 2.4Ghz band. I had faster speeds on the older UniFi hardware.1Not as simple as you might think, but very worth it for the priceGood-looking device. It's no Cisco LWAP, it's all plastic and very lightweight. But it looks good, mounts easily, and best of all does what it says on the box.About the only thing missing from this is a big instruction manual for all the features you'd expect to be able to be accessible in an Enterprise WiFi system (UniFi). They are there, just a little harder to find than usual. The only reason I haven't rated five stars is that the UniFi installation process is no joke - on Windows it's probably fine, but if you're like me and testing for a real deployment you're going to build a Linux VM. Holy crap was that painful until the non-obvious issues were fixed. Once up and running, though, it's been a dream. All in all, a good product.4Excellent coverage in both 2Excellent coverage in both 2.4/5Ghz bands. Indicator light ring is both useful for checking current status of WAP and is not too bright (this is in a home and even in the dark its a soft, non-invasive glow) and can be turned off completely if desired. Looks very nice and unassuming mounted flush on the drywall above our kitchen cabinets. The controller software is well designed and fairly intuitive, provides a wealth of information, and allows for configuration of multiple APs that can be sorted into different sites if you're running a large scale or campus network. You can also upload your own floorplans or use google maps to mark the layout of your access points and it provides an approximate coverage area for each AP over said map.The only issue I have had so far with this is the ambiguity of the documentation regarding the secondary ETH port on the WAP. The small quickstart booklet that comes packaged only mentions it being used for bridging the network to another device, whereas I had read elsewhere that it was needed for link aggregation back to the switch to provide full AC speeds.I am very satisfied with the product and would recommend it to any medium size business that doesn't want to throw down big money for a Cisco buildout, or even home networks that want to get off their janky consumer grade wifi router combo.5Four Starsworks4Five StarsWorks well in an array5I love Ubiquiti but I ultimately replaced this after about a ...I love Ubiquiti but I ultimately replaced this after about a year with one of the newer AC devices. Well known problems with this model not handling well in a multi-AP environment.3Best wireless AC unit for the price. Beats the pants off any Airport ExtremeWay better than I ever expected. Competes well with the Xirrus MIMO devices. I am not buying Xirrus for our other locations. These even support roaming. Amazing device and incredible Management System software. Say goodbye to expensive Xirrus, Arruba, and Meraki wireless technology and hello to Unifi wirless AC with wireless repeaters!Man this is good stuff.5
