Great little powered USB 2 Hub This item is smaller than a deck of cards and provides 4 powered USB 2 ports. The Amazon description indicates this is a USB 1.1 device. The literature indicates that it isa a USB 2 device. I required a powered hub for my notebook computer that was USB 1.1 compliant. My system indicates that the Hub would work faster on a USB 2 port - but it works without issues on my notebook. I bought this USB Hub because the manufacturer - TrippLite is a very reputable name and makes great products.I have not been disappointed. 5Bought a second one! The first one worked so well that I bought a second. The USB ports on my laptop are on the both sides, putting the cords on the right in the way of the mouse. I tried a non-powered USP hub and everything slowed way down and some things, like the external drive, would not work. Now I've got 2 cables plugged into the USB ports on the left side of the computer. The 2 Tripp Lite hubs plugged into them. And all the USB assessories, plugged into the hubs, with ports left over. 5Works great on my 'old' computer This worked just great on a refurbished 'new' IBM thinkpad T43p that I purchased. It allows me use of more ports and worked great. I'm very happy with the product and it's been several months without an issue. 5Piece of Junk I don't know what's worse... paying $20 for this pile of semi-plastic, semi-assembled trash or charging things with it.Probably the former.I bought this because I'm in college right now and travel to my parents place a lot. Well, rather than take up 3 or four outlets with my various gadgets and doodads I decided that it would be economical to have something like this. It's not economical at all. The A/C adapter broke on it's second use, the casing falls apart if you sneeze on it, and it charges like my grandmother drives- slowly and not very well.If you want a charging hub, just get something else because this thing seriously blows.I only wish I could give it 0 stars. 1Nice for the price; hard to plug into Good price and gets the job done. Not sure how it is for all of them, but the ports on mine are quite tight and difficult to plug into. When I first started using it, I thought mine might have been broken or wrong somehow because I couldn't get any plugs to fit easily; I was eventually able to get my mouse and everything else in with a little force. I try not to unplug or shift things around, as sometimes it feels like it might break something by plugging or unplugging it because it takes so much effort to do so. I like that it's a powered port. Overall, good for the price. 4Works Well! This hub performs well and solves the issue of running out of USB ports. 5Not as advertised and not for Mac The item pictured is not what you receive. As a previous reviewer has noted, you get a long thin silver hub with all of the ports on one side. It looks very much (but not quite exactly) like the USB hub in this kit: Tripp Lite PK3022ET Notebook/Laptop Peripheral Kit with Network Cable/Mouse/USB Hub. It's about 3.5"L x 1.5"W x 0.5"H.Although the description of this item includes Macs, the packaging says that the system requirements are Windows 98SE/2000/ME/XP. (No Mac, and no Vista) It does have a dual-voltage power cord and a 4ft extension cable as advertised. It is the same item number (U222-004-R). The packaging doesn't say anything about being USB 2.0 "certified", only that it's USB 1.1 and 2.0 compatible. In fact, it doesn't work on my Mac G5 desktop. Since the hub is not supported for Macs, this is not surprising. I can use it for the printer, and if I plug in an iPod it does charge it (slowly). However, the iPod is not reliably visible from iTunes. Also, the thumb drive that works on both the laptop and the Mac when directly connected was unreadable when plugged into this hub connected to the Mac.The blue light on the top is VERY bright if you look directly at it. I was looking at the top of the unit when I plugged it in and I was seeing spots for minutes after that.It works OK on the Windows (XP) laptop that I have for work. Since that was half of the reason I bought it, I suppose I'll keep it. At less than $25, it's very cheap, after all. I wouldn't even consider paying the full list price ($49.99) for this device. It is just not worth it. 2Purchased from Amazon ... First unit Defective, Second the same I own 3 of these units already, and needed a fourth for the same application. The units (new original its replacement) that I received did not function in my application (no power provided). I have two Raspberry Pi's powered by this same model hub. The output of the older units (two purchased within the last year from the same source) is sufficient to stably power the Pi, a 2TB WD My Passport, and the network connection, plus a USB flash drive. This saves space, cost and the need for an extra outlet. A USB to micro USB cable is placed in one of the four ports and the other end into the Pi to power it. The USB stub cable is connected to one of the Pi's USB ports. The old ones work great like this. Unfortunately, when the new unit was used in the exact same application, the hub would not light or power the Pi (even without anything else - like the 2TB drive). After going through the effort to take a 2nd item, I was treated to a deduction of the shipping charge for the 2nd one, but didn't find out until after I placed a $100.00+ order including a different USB hub at a higher price since no exchanges or credits were permitted. Here comes the Grinch. 1Works fantastic. Charges things fast and keeps stuff organized in ... Works fantastic. Charges things fast and keeps stuff organized in one spot. Love it. 5actaully works... with printer mouse, hard drive.. whaterver its ugly.... kinda anoying with all the cords.. but it works. i've had one for a few years adn i jsut purchased a second one... there are a few others on the market that are more stylish.. but i woudl rather go for functionality. its also nice bc its small so i can take it to-go 5
