Excellent backpack at this price pointUpdate 10/15/20141 month and 3 airports later, the backpack still looks like new, I have to say it is not BIG, it is HUGE, it fits the 17.3 inch latop, power adapter, a nikon D7100 with a 18-200 lens in a camera bag, a light jacket and an ipad with room left for more. The separate laptop zipper allows a fast checkpoint transit, it feels very light and the straps are very comfortable if you have to carry it for a long while. The only thing that does not match the whole backpack feeling is the top handle which is a little thin, but to me it is not an issue because I hardly ever grab it from the top handle.I am very satisfied with this backpack.Great, sturdy, light, big. Construction feels very solid, materials feel great. Recommendable 100%5Great Backpack! Must Have!First, for $24.99 + Prime Shipping this is the BEST backpack you can get at this price range. Other backpacks at nearly twice the price are not worth the extra cost. Also, the aesthetics if you're not adverse to orange is on point.I held off on purchasing this backpack because of some of the reviews. So this review isn't to give you any information that any other review hasn't already but to talk about how my expectations were exceeded after receiving this backpack.I had an older go to backpack that I use when I travel but it was getting too small for the amount of stuff I started lugging around. That stuff included a power strip, carrying case for charger cables and small accessories, another for computer cables like long usb, hdmi and card readers, and one more pouch for the laptop charger. I have a smaller case for a tablet and a kindle as well as my laptop. Fits a 15" MBP with room to spare. The zipper quality is smooth, I have confidence it won't run off track like shown in one of the review photos. The main compartment can hold 1-2 days worth of clothes while the other compartments held all the accessories I previously mentioned. This will be my new go to backpack for going away for the weekend.Another nice thing about this backpack is that when you set it down it stays upright without any worry that it's going to topple over. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a quality backpack without spending a ton of money.5Behold: the perfect backpackThis is the best backpack I've ever owned, ever seen anyone else own, or ever seen for sale. It's basically perfect. Here's why:1) It holds a ton of stuff. The pockets are generous. They opted for fewer, larger pockets vs. lots of small pockets that don't hold much and just get zipper pulls in your way. The lack of unncessary pockets also means the backpack has a really sleek, professional look. It doesn't look like a kid's school bag. (However, it would work perfectly as a school bag if that's what you need -- I wish a backpack this nice had been around when I was in high school.)2) The straps are positioned so that the backpack rides high on your back, much higher than typical backpacks that pull on your shoulders, causing them to get sore after a while. This one is designed more like professional hiking/camping backpacks that distribute the bag's weight more evenly. (Yes, you will look a little weird with the backpack riding so high, but it's well worth it to me to not have sore shoulders at the end of the day.)3) The interior is orange, which makes it easier to find things inside.4) It stands completely upright on its own. This is such a rare quality in backpacks, but pretty essential, in my opinion. It will stay upright and not topple over and crush your stuff, even when it's fully loaded. It'll even stand upright when it's empty, provided the base is "puffed out" enough to give it support. My one complaint is that the side pockets are not good for storing water bottles, but this isn't a deal-breaker for me. There are plenty of other good ways to store water bottles in this bag. Now, stop reading this and go buy this backpack!5Zipper came apart after 6 months.Update: 10/19/2015 (6 months of ownership)Contrary to my initial review, I had to drop this bag from 5 stars to 2 stars. After only 6 months, and very light use, opening it maybe 2 to 3 times a day for work, and the main pocket zipper came un-stitched completely and can no longer be sealed. Very disappointed that this backpack only lasted 6 months. I've had to move back to my old Solo backpack that I've had for 6 years and is still in working condition.--------------------------------------------Very shapely. Excellent build. Great durable quality. I've been rocking a Solo since back in 2009, and absolutely loved how durable and functional it was. But after spilling coffee inside of it, it was time. This served as a phenomenal replacement. It has so many compartments, without seeming like overkill. Also, the shapely second pocket is great, as it maintains it's square compartment shape very well. Also, the laptop portion is very large and provides ample space for a monster laptop. Would buy this again.2Zipper Separation after Two Years of UseThis Solo backpack went into service on June 27, 2015 to replace an Ogio Jack Pack which had served as my faithful work companion for 13 years. Two years later, it's on its way out because the threading that holds the zipper on the main compartment has come out, leaving the zipper unattached and unable to easily function. Though I can't say that I've loved the backpack, I'm disappointed that I must replace it after two years.Pros:(1) BIG. My current laptop is a Dell 7710 mobile workstation (17") and the backpack swallows it and the enormous power brick with ease.(2) Lightweight when empty.(3) Comfortable to carry.Cons:(1) Too few compartments, especially for smaller items. The aforementioned Jack Pack had compartments inside of compartments. Everything had a place. In this Solo backpack, the large front pocket holds a lot of stuff, but that stuff gets jumbled during travel. This is a minor complaint.(2) Poor construction, at least for the unit I've been using.2Great backpack! I bought this backpack a couple of months ago for school. Let me tell you it's quite large. It holds a lot. For my needs, I think my laptop had good support. I have a 17.5" HP laptop and it fits the laptop compartment in the backpack just right, No more no less. It has plenty of space for books in the other compartment. I'v had a binder inside, a textbook, folders and being female, I have stuffed the front compartments with all sorts of things from makeup to papers, all kinds of pens and highlighter, sharpeners, my phone, etc... it all fits just fine. It has held up very nice, it still looks new. And the shoulder straps are very comfortable. I'm 5 ft tall and this backpack takes up my whole back and half my rear, so i'd say it's a descent size. Now my husband is using for work. He takes his laptop in there and all his other ppwk and he likes it. It's much more comfortable than those messenger looking laptop bags.. Besides who wants to carry the weight of a laptop and other knick knacks off one shoulder... I know I don't, so this to me was a great purchase. Be ware, the inside and orders are orange.. I don't mind the cooler, it's cool. So if you don't like orange, you may want to re-think this.. 5Great Bag!Just received the bag. Ordered as a gift for a friend. Did a QC check before giving it.5 pockets: furthest back holds the computer, good 1/4 inch padding on the front, back, sides and bottom; next, the main pocket with the most space, there an extra slot for a tablet but seems a little flimsy; 3 pockets on the front - top has some space, small pockets - for a phone and such, and the larger bottom pocket.Straps and back seem well padded and sturdy. Will update with pictures soon.5Great Buy, Great Price (Still)This backpack is amazing. I would highly recommend it.PROS:> The zippers are very smooth.> The material feels good, and the stitching/binding feel solid.> There is plenty of back-padding between your back and the laptop compartment.> The straps are comfortable.> The space inside is nothing less than CAVERNOUS! I fit an ASUS g751j 17.3+" gaming laptop, an HP Pavilion G7 17" laptop, an iPad, two power bricks (for the laptops), an iCharger, an iPhone, a digital camera, a full-size set of studio headphones (IN their case), and two wireless mice in this thing... with almost no zipper-forcing! I noticed that I could've fit a textbook in after all that, and that I also forgot about the two side pouches. This thing is monstrous. :-)CONS:> I really wish this pack had a chest strap, since my laptop + power brick is about 11 lbs with nothing else. That's about the only thing "wrong" with it.UPDATE ====== 5/10/2016 ===== >It's rare that I give second reviews on a single product on Amazon, but this one... is worth it. I have used the TAR of this thing, and there are still no signs of wear, no breaks, no fabric tears, no zippers falling off, no stuck zippers (even when it's loaded and heavy)...One of the best purchases I have ever made on Amazon.12/27/2017 - This backpack has taken a beating and has been hauled at capacity, zippers pulled tight no zippers have broken, ripped, frayed, or failed. One little thread FINALLY came loose on the carry handle. Nothing else. After two years of abuse. Epic backpack.5Nice loading, holds 17" laptop, reasonable amount of gear and nice pocket features with cool orange interior!Overall this is a nice backpack, I compare it to my SwissGear type one and here are my pros and cons which is a nice way to review it:Pros:I really like the orange interior, it does help you find things and looks cool too. The other backpacks had black interiors and the orange seems like it lights up the inside of the bag!The biggest 'like' is the top loading laptop slot, that seems way more safe and secure than the side loading one I had and I did have cases on my previous backpack where the zippers opened and the whole thing opened up and risked falling out. Not an issue with this and it feels more secure putting it in from the top and seems to have good amount of space. i fit in my 17" laptop, plus a leather notebook binder into that slot without issues.Similarly the top loading main pocket is nice you can pack things in there where that is more difficult on a front loading type backpack. I can pack a lot of clothes in there, thought not as much as overstuffing the SwissGear one, but it works for multi-day trips, at least for me and I travel very light.I like the front pocket at top it is great for my mouse and power cables and holds it securely for easy access. The very front slot pocket is perfect for glasses case and sunglasses. The straps are way thicker than the SwissGear, I consider that as a plus to cushion my shoulders cuz after years of travel with the SwissGear pack, you can tell the comfort level is much better with these, a lot softer on the shoulders.Cons:The main potential 'con' is the zippers don't seem very beefy compared to the SwissGear backpack I had, it's possible those could break or fail but at this point, they are OK. I guess just have to be more careful with them but definitely they don't appear as durable as the SwissGear backpack. The only other one is that this pack is not quite as large as I might light, but I kind of adapted to it. The nice pockets for cables, mouse, glasses and top loading slots really offset that. Those are really cool features I will look for in future backpacks!Overall, I like it. If it had better quality zippers I would give it five stars! Hope this is useful!4Update: 15 months later; this is still a great backpack!Just got it today (Jan 2017). My initial thought is: Finally! This is the tech bag I've been seeking. My 17.3 inch HP Pavilion laptop in neoprene sleeve fits nice and snug in it's compartment. My NOOK Color in a case slides easily in and out of it's pocket but is deep enough to stay put (pocket will probably fit an 8 inch tablet in a case); the rest of the compartment is large enough to hold clothes for an overnight or dictionary, spiral notebooks, books, and snacks - fair amount of usable space here. My LG G Pad in a slim case fits loosely in middle, top, front compartment (probably room enough for 8" tab with thick case). My Galaxy S5 in armored case fits loose enough in top, front compartment to accommodate other handy items. Side compartments allow for 20oz. bottles or wallet and passport. The front, bottom compartment has pockets for pens/styluses, mouse, thumb drives case, and a wide pocket for checkbook/day-planner, cords, and cables, etc. all without forcing the zipper shut. Both of the large compartments have padding equal to 1.5x standard padded neoprene sleeves all the way around (same at the bottom, no 'extra'), with extra at your back. Craftsmanship seems sturdy; I'll change my review if it craps out before warrenty. . . .(April 2018) Update: I have overloaded this bag. I've traveled in planes, buses, work trucks, and cars. I use it as storage when not on the road. The stitching is still strong. The exterior still looks good and seems to 'resist' tearing. This was a great buy, and I am very pleased with this tech backpack!5Perfect for a large laptop with plenty of padding; needs dual zipper on two front pocketsI bought this bag a few years ago and use it infrequently for long trips to carry my 17.3" laptop. I really want to love this backpack, but the lack of dual zippers on two of the front pockets is really a hassle. I got so use to dual zippers on a smaller bag that I purchased almost 20 years ago. Not having those is truly frustrating when you're quickly trying to access things and close the back back up. Outside fabric quality is fairly good, straps and buckles reasonably strong, and the padding is quite solid. I recommend buying it if you can deal with the lack of dual zippers on two important pockets.4
