Customer Reviews

Work great!I use these dual layer DVDs mostly for making hard back ups. (Never know when the backup hard drive may fail!) I have used at least 50 of these, and not one has failed to write properly. (I don't know if it matters, but I always record at the slowest possible speed, as I had read somewhere that the slower burning speed writes a "deeper" burn, which lasts better against scratches.) Perhaps the slower speed also prevents the "failed burns".5100% fail rateI authored a DVD for dual layer and thought these cheap discs would be worth a try, even at one-half the listed burn rate to be safe. After about 12 attempts, I could not get a burn to get past a few percent, assuming it started at all: this is 100% fail rate. I've never burned coasters with other media, DVD or Blu-ray. I was able to burn random files such as for data backup, but I didn't buy these for backup: I need the dual layer for long DVD programs. I've moved on to premium DL-DVD media, not terribly surprised at what I got for what I paid here.UPDATE: My desktop PC burner (Pioneer BDR-203) just didn't like this media. I upgraded ny review to four (4) stars after trying these on my laptop's burner. What do you know? I got perfect burns at 6x burn rate, and ImgBurn verification flagged no errors.4Smartbuy Dual layers blanksSo far I have used up 14 blanks. Of the 14, 12 burned fine and play back fine on my Blu Ray player. But I can't say that they will play OK on someone else player or DVD player. The two that didn't burned properly were due to my computer doing something that caused it to produce a bad burn. It had to do with my old computer, running Windows 7 and its slow response sometime to implement a task in the background while burning. If one have a slow computer like me, you would want to make sure to turn off any task being run in the back ground like your email, or web update that get done in background. All it takes is for your computer to go out of synth with the burn process and your disc will burn wrong. So the bottom line is that I am satisfied with this brand of blanks, which are made in Vietnam, by Ritek, the manufacturer.4Perfect Recording; SmellyAfter I ran into problems with Verbatim's similar disks failing repeatedly in all drives I tried, I switched to these disks that are about half the price and not one has failed in any drive I used. I am hoping they will hold up with time and read properly years from now, but at least they record properly. They DO have a strong odor! But it fades away with exposure to air over time.5BUYER BEWARE! This is the first time that I ... BUYER BEWARE!This is the first time that I purchased this brand and never again! I experienced a 75% failure rate on these discs. We have been duplicating DVDs for over 10 years using Microboards duplicators and at most experienced a 1% failure rate. 1Excellent! These are Great. I have a DVD burner that is LightScribe. LightScribe DVD are selling for $2.00 USD's a disk, terrible. So I bought me Smart Buy Dual layer White disk and a stencil. Since I spent money on a external LightScribe before the disk escalated from equal price to $2.00 a disk. I now use the White disk, and stencil with a permanent marker. They look great. That's labeling, as far as recording pictures video, or whatever, I relied on SmartBuy and they delivered. 5 Stars earned. 5Performs so well, I've already bought a backup These DVDs are ideal for making your own projects. Having gone through 42 of the 50 already, I have only had 2 discs fail to write. The rest have burned as they should, and they have all printed with no problems. One note about the printing: you'll need a special program (I use Canon's My Image Garden), and you should avoid getting the discs wet, as if the surface is moistened, the ink will lift, and potentially run. Other than that, if you need printable discs, these are as good as you can get. 5Nice inexpensive blanks. The discs have an even white coating from the edge of the disc to the spindle hole which is great for printing images on the disc. I have used lots and lots of double layer discs and this brand of discs perform as well as many others that I have used. They certainly work for my purposes.4Decent discs, bad enclosureThe discs are okay, I have had one coaster among the 7 I used. My bigger gripe however is that the packaging is horrible. the bottom holder was completely broken as it is made of plastic that is cheap and weaker than the disc itself. The top shell also was completely cracked. I had half a mind to return the thing but I decided to take a look and the discs were not scratched, so avoided the process.4Fantastic quality disc at a very reasonable price.I will admit, I had my doubts with a non-named brand disc. But like a few other reviews, I was ready to switch away from the previous manufacturer since they jacked the prices up so high. And it helped that Smart Buy had a pretty good rating. With my previous brand I was down to my last 10 DVD's and I started to get failed burns. About every 4th disc was failing. Which was discouraging. Of course I ran out of blank media and needed to burn a few more disc. I updated the firmware in my burner (Which only improved BR playback) and received my new Smart Buy DVD's. The very first burn was flawless. As well as the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th now. I will definitely be buying this product again.5Works most of the timeThese work great when you have a fast enough computer to burn DVDs. The best way to get good results is to have no other programs slowing down the burning process. I still get about 1 in about 7 not working properly. Just leave the computer alone and don't use it for other stuff since any glitches can result in an error. Errors usually occur towards the end of the burning process for these - as some movies are cleared by the system - but fail in the DVD player while playing near the end of the movie. But again, this happens about 1 in 7 so for the price is good, and test each movie. Also make sure you ad chapters in your movies and test each DVD by skipping chapters, if it freezes while skipping chapters you have a bad DVD. I burn long 2 hour and 45 minute movies for clients and these handle it well, though I would suggest no more that 2.5 hours for better results.4Reliable, ConsistentI had some trepidation about dual-layer DVDs - how reliable would they be? I've only burned one so far, but it worked the 1st time from my Ubuntu Linux PC using an internal LG BlueRay/DVD burner. The data was more than 4.7 GB so it used both layers, and the disc plays just fine on my Oppo BDP-83 disc player. And it prints just fine on my Epson R800.So far, so good.5So far, so good--yeah!Hey, so far, so good. Haven't run off very many copies as yet, a mere 3-4. But absolutely no complaints up to this point. Should they disappoint me significantly sometime in the future, I'll try to update my review then. In the meantime, I'm very pleased with this brand and the great price & good value.5Okay not that great though Discs are okay, 6 of the 50 discs failed the check after burning (always make sure to run a full check on the disc and never trust that just because it burned it works). Still a decent deal since they were so cheap compared to other dual layer discs. My biggest gripe is amazon prime shipped these in a box much larger than the discs and only put in 1 tiny peice of bubble padding which kind of seems pointless since it doesn't do anything to prevent the spindle from bashing all over. Spindle arrived with the plastic top cracked open. 3
