Customer Reviews

Useless by designThese don't work at all. They don't stop the window from sliding unless you tighten the set screw so tight that it strips its threads. Also, the set screw approaches the opposite metal at an angle instead of straight on. That means the mechanism naturally slides out of contact with the window frame. So, utterly useless by design.1great for screens that don't lock into placei paid $200 a replacement that i just had installed & none of the screens have a snap lock to hold the screen in place. these are ideal to keep the screen secure so it doesn't move. if someone wants to cur through a screen to get in they will but why make it easier for them by having a screen that just lifts up so you don't even know they came in? these keep the screens in place so they can't be lifted from outside. i like to open my street level windows from the top & the screens kept sliding down. these keep them in place to keep the flies out. they are also good to lock the window above an air conditioner in place so the window can't be slid open from the outside. they don't provide a high end security system but do a good job keeping screens & windows in place for a great price.5These work great as a precaution, be careful with local codes and adequate fire escapesSimple install, in essence, it will slow down anyone wanting to unlatch your windows by breaking the glass.Slows them down. It is more likely that a trespasser will attempt to kick in your door. Make sure and have sturdy deadlocks, latch reinforcements with security scores as well Hinge security screws. These screws go into the studs surrounding the door. But I have used these window latches before, they also help to keep your window tight around the window frame.5Great for peace of mindAny young woman who lives alone knows how anxious you get about break-ins and intruders. The crime in my area went up recently, so I ordered these to place on my windows, and I m so happy they work like they re supposed to. I tested them, and there s no way someone can get in through the window with these on... thank the lord.5Below average quality, design, and functionality.Unfortunately, while these sliding window locks are inexpensive, and an "Amazon's Choice" selection, I don't think they're very good. A couple of issues:1) the "shaft" of the thumb screw is thinner than normal--only about 3/16 inch in diameter. My older window locks--and also some "double screw" locks that I recently purchased here--have thumb screws that are 1/4 inch in diameter, and therefore more robust.2) the shaft of the thumb screw is very short; if you have older, single-pane aluminum windows from the 1950s or 1960s, you can bottom-out the thumb screw of these lock on those older window guides/frames.3) the thumb screw engages the locking surface [the window frame] at a relatively--and unnecessarily--steep angle. Instead of the "flat" surface of the screw engaging the window frame, only an narrow edge of the screw does all the work of "locking." This is either a poor design, or a manufacturing error.4) finally, the metal of these sliding locks is very soft. I'm just an old guy--not The Hulk--but when I crank down on the thumb screw, I can definitely feel the metal/aluminum of the lock or thumb screw "give" or bend a bit. This doesn't happen with my other window locks. In summary, there are better designed/better made window locks that should provide more security. Not recommended.2They can work if you re crafty enough to modify them.Eh... kinda worked. I bought these for my vertical open windows because my lovely children learned how to open their windows and would throw toys outside. I did not want one of them falling out of a window so I decided it was either see if these worked or bolt the windows shut. I managed to make them work by grinding a side down so it could get a better grip on the window. Next I had to wedge a shim behind it as the product wanted to twist as I was tightening it down. At least one of the locks I was installing stripped out as the finger bolts only thread into thin aluminum.1They work!My 3 year old grandson lives next door and he s always escaping. I bought these to keep him from escaping out my daughters windows. Works perfectly. I have raised 5 kids and never had to put a house on lock down like my daughter does with him. They work great and I can rest my mind knowing he isn t breaking free.5Good EnoughWe live in an older house (60+ yrs) that has aluminum windows. None of the windows like up to the original locking mechanism. These work great and better than another brand we tried.4Very good product for the priceI need to keep my downstairs apartment windows open while I am at work, or when I am out and about. It's too hot outside to keep them closed. So I looked around and found these locks. They are sturdy and do the trick.I would definitely recommend.5Check your window rails to see what you need.Didn t fit my windows and they don t allow returns. I bought these the same night I had a person trying to break into my house. I bought these on reaction to that thinking no matter what if they don t work then I can return them and get the correct ones. Seems I was wrong.1
