Description

This 7" Touchscreen display for the Raspberry Pi is perfect for creating portable and embedded projects where a keyboard and Mouse would be in the way.
The full color display outputs up to 800 x 480 and features a capacitive touch sensing capable of detecting 10 fingers.
Only two connections from the Pi TO the Display are necessary; power from GPIO (or USB) connection to the DSI port. The adapter board handles power, Signal conversion, and touch input conversion.
Kit contents: 7" Touchscreen display adapter board DSI ribbon cable 4 x stand-offs and screws 4 x jumper wires

So far, works great. Easier than I thought I would be to setup.I don't know if they changed the way they are starting to ship their product or if I just got lucky, but mine was pretty much assembled when I got it. The circuit board was installed unlike the videos you might find on YouTube. All I had to do was attach the bigger ribbon cable, the power cable and ground. Then, since I didn't particularly like the cables at the top and I bought a case for mine, I wanted to orient the lcd screen 180 degrees like many others have mentioned. I did the following:1. sudo nano /boot/config.txt2. add the linelcd_rotate=23. Save it4. RebootThe one caveat is with the ribbon cable. The blue color on the ends goes toward the black clip connector when you insert it (no, those black connectors aren't supposed to come all the way out...don't break them). After you insert the ribbon cable in the slot, you press the black plastic clips back in as to wedge the ribbon cable in its place.4Great display, easy to work with.Built myself a Pi3 Touchscreen PC using this display and the new Raspberry Pi 3.. This display works as well as my Galaxy S4, and is more accurate with overscan turned off. When it boots, you may see a lightning bolt or a small icon like the boot screen (color chart).. this means this section is reporting a brownout.. the 2.5A power supply that comes in the Pi3 kit is not enough, but the 3A supply handles it just fine.This unit fits perfectly into the tilting container that also holds the Pi. The only wires I have connected to the display is the ribbon cable (handles video and touch response) and the 5V splitter.. they've included the wires to go from the 40-pin connector, but it might be better to use the 5V MicroUSB power port for it's protection.great color response, listed as 800x480, but I think it may be 720x480. The cable is hard to tell which way it plugs in to the boards. they only give you 4 hook up wires and there are five pins on the board. luckily you don't need these if you are connecting through the flat cable and using the usb connector for power. The display is fairly good but the drivers (yes I did do the update) only let you use about 75% of the actual display area. I even tried adjusting some of the display settings to see if I could improve on it with no luck. So really it is only about a 6" display and that is being generous. Over all it does work and is good picture quality. Though I am going to have to go back to using a bigger display as I just need to display to many things at once for this display.3The product doesn t work, and I m not the only case.The circuit board was already mounted and the ribbon cables inserted, when it was taken out of the packaging - I thought this was odd as all the tutorials insist you must do this yourself. I think the unit I received was a used return. There is a small perhaps 20 page pamphlet describing safety and hazardous material warnings, but no instructions on how to setup and use this device. There was a quarter page of instructions saying to go the Element 14 website, but the link only took me to the product and gave me the opportunity to purchase another one. This was obviously useless and frustrating. I was trying to fixing for 3 hours, It was just wasted of time.1Nice display! Negative reviewers, did you do the required updates?Bought one of these the other day. I'm pretty happy with it so far. Now I can be on my pi without hogging a tv!Since there were no assembly instructions included I headed to Google for a search. I found a youtube video explaining how to connect everything. Very simple assembly indeed. I thought that was all I had to do but I was wrong. I powered it on but alas, no display. Further Google research led me to a couple of very important steps that I'm sure most of the bad reviewers are skipping. After connecting the display YOU MUST PERFORM AN UPDATE!While your new display is assembled and connected, you must still connect the pi to a tv using the HDMI port to perform an update. Once it boots and you are at your command prompt you must execute the following commands in this order. Let each one run to completion before executing the next command. Each command might take 10 minutes or more to finish. After you execute the last command to reboot, you can then disconnect your HDMI cable and your display will function.sudo apt-get updatesudo apt-get upgradesudo reboot5Probably the worst product documentation I've seen yetI believe I will eventually get this working. However, to begin you are really provided with no guidance, other than to start googling. There seems to be no "official" guidance. There have been several versions of this, so some of the YouTube videos might show you the daughter board already attached or you need to attach it yourself. Mine came with it attached. You must also update your raspberry pi firmware and software (even when downloading in 2019, it seems). Also power seems to be an issue. You can either power it from its own USB-micro or GPIO pens. Neither has worked for me yet. I suspect I might not have enough power, so I am trying higher amp USB brick. I've also been advised on the raspberry pi forums to seek higher quality USB cables, so I am trying that too (not sure how to tell a "high quality USB cable".1Simple Touch display for your Pi running OctoPrintWorked great for the intended use. Have this running the TouchUI plug in for OctoPrint so I can see print progress at a glance above my 3D printer enclosure. Have to make sure everything is up and running the latest releases and Kernels on the Pi, which in my case is running Raspian lite.This is just the raw screen and connection components, so make sure you pick up or print a enclosure for it. Google "raspberry pi invert display" (first search result for me, YMMV.)The display is bright and clear. The touch interface works just fine with Chromium in the Raspbian Jessie / PIXEL distro I'm using. And the default font settings is easily readable, in spite of my eyes which are old enough to have played games on an Atari VCS when it came out in the 70s. I'm very happy with this display.5The screen is beautiful, and I tested it on RetroPie and Ubuntu ...I received my item and excitedly unwrapped it along with the Pi 3 that I had just purchased. After following a five minute tutorial, I was able to connect it flawlessly on the first try. The screen is beautiful, and I tested it on RetroPie and Ubuntu Mate with zero issues. I am very pleased with my purchase.A little side note though: I paid a little more than it was worth because I was a little impatient to get my product. If I had ordered it from the official site, it would only have cost me $60, but they had a two week waiting list. This item is a bait and switch. Everything I am reading says you have to put the item together. It was already put together, had finger prints under the plastic cover on the glass, and zero instructions. This is Fraud and a bait and switch.1
