Good quality speaker cable. These are fairly good quality cables. I still have some left over and will definitely be using them for my adding more speakers in the future. One thing to note is that the copper strands and the housing might not be round'ish and may be oval shaped. So, when you're stripping the ends, you have to be careful to cut slightly all the way around with the stripper and then pull away to get the housing off. If you cut through the housing and pull with one shot, you may have cut away some of the outer stands.4Just what the doctor ordered. I am very pleased with this purchase of >99% *copper* (not the cheap poorly-conducting aluminum) speaker wire. I have since used this wire for my 15" DVC woofer and two 10" woofers.[The only improvement would be to twist the cables together, but you can do this yourself - just insert one end into an electric drill and twist away. You *could* pay a lot more for twisted cables from other manufacturers, but I've noticed that many of the "twisted" wires aren't very twisted, as in one full wire twist over the length of 6 inches. I prefer to twist my speaker wires one full twist every three inches, and I personally wouldn't pay twice as much for wires that I don't consider adequately twisted. I haven't noticed any significant benefit in shielding speaker wires, as they are high-level wires, versus the low-level i.e. RCA connectors. In the past, I have actually shielded my speaker wires, but in most cases in my experience, just twisting the speaker wires will reduce any potential RF interference to inaudible levels.]Aside from *AWG* size, the two most important factors when purchasing speaker wire is copper content and price. For these two factors, this item gets 5 stars.Thank you, Monoprice. 5As advertisedWell, I'm not about to start counting strands or analyzing each strand for is true copper content but as a person who appreciates good quality audio and has a very decent media setup this cable works perfectly and does color the sound in any way. It is 12 gauge which still narrow enough to hide away under baseboards or negotiate through walls but heavy enough to carry a high wattage signal up to about 75'.5My...My...MyMonoprice makes good wire!! I have their HDMI Premium cables throughout my system and decided to try their 12 gauge speaker wire for my new Focal speakers. This is some serious speaker wire!!! I connected it to the Mediabridge banana plugs and they are made for each other...perfect fit.The sound from my speakers is phenomenal!! The wire is heavy duty, but flexible...you can feel the quality as you reel it off the spool. You'll really see and feel the quality when you need to trim it for your speakers.Let's just say that I'm still one of the guys that wonders why I can get Monoprice quality cables at a very reasonable price that meets all the manufacturer's specs for high-end sound systems. You really DO NOT have to spend a fortune for all those "other" cables touting their bells and whistles and specs. Their specs are not any better than Monoprices. I'm serious...do some homework...you'll see.5Where's my other 50ft of cable?I ordered 100 feet of cable, and I am convinced I only got 50 feet. The product was labeled as 100 but I do recall the spool not being completely full. I didn't think it would be necessary to measure the whole thing before installing it so I didn't. I am somewhat happy because 50 feet was enough to get my job done. I was really hoping to have some leftover cable though. There is a significant difference between 100 feet and 50 feet. I did two runs to rear channel speakers for my surround and I brought the cables down into my basement, ran it along the ceiling in the basement, then back up the rear to get to the rear channels. The distance under the floor is roughly 16 feet. I did two runs of that for the two rear speakers. I somehow got through all 100 feet? Yeah I don't think so, I definitely did not get 100 feet. I don't know if someone used some of the spool and returned it or what. Anyway, the actual product seems fine, I was just upset that the seller (Amazon) did not pay attention to the spool sizes and didn't question why this one seemed to have less than the other actual 100 foot cables. I am not going to bother returning it since everything is already in my walls and set up the way I want it. Good product, just make sure you don't get gypped on size before installing it.4Great quality!Works great! Used it to pre-wire speakers in my garage using "smurf tube" plastic conduit inside of my walls. It was a little bit thick to run 2 pairs of wire in the same conduit, but I pulled them through separately and they were gripping on eachother. Sound quality it great from my retired Onkyo TX-NR737 A/V receiver to my Elac debut B6.2 bookshelf speakers.Great speaker wire. I can always trust Monoprice speaker wire and CAT 5/6 ethernet cables. I've had trouble with some of their HDMI cables though. I switched to lockable Accell AVgrip Pro HDMI cables that literally grip the inside of the HDMI ports on your devices.5Good quality and real copper.I recently bought some 14 AWG 99.99% OF copper speaker wire on ebay for $20. Upon arrival it looked good and I was mostly satisfied. Being the curious cat that I am I soaked a piece of stripped ebay wire in an ammonia based gun cleaner, ammonia is used to chemically strip and remove copper from gun bores. After a few hours of soaking the ebay wire turned silver in color. So I then discovered that the ebay wire was not in fact true copper wire. I then immediately returned the ebay wire and bought this Monoprice wire. Upon arrival the Monoprice wire looked to be of very high quality. Although others have said that it comes with a very thick jacket I thought it was perfect. Of course I also did the ammonia test with the Monoprice wire. The results proved that the Monoprice wire is in fact real copper wire. If you are looking for high quality true copper speaker wire at a reasonable price this is it.5Very happy with this in my relatively high-end system I went back and forth on whether to spend more on 'high-end' cables, but I went this route and am very happy. As one professional reviewer stated, (paraphrasing) you are better off spending your money on better speakers than going beyond what this wire does for you. Everything sounds bright, detailed and clear. I cut each wire to the exact length I needed, and terminated them with Mediabridge banana plugs. For reference, in the past I have used separate components since the 70's, but I recently switched to a Onkyo Tx-Rz810. For speakers I am still using my Definitive Technology Mythos STS One Supertowers (with matching surrounds) and a massive sub that has its own amp. 5Monoprice 12AWG Speaker Cable - Excellent Value and Well MadeI recently upgraded my home theater system with a new Denon receiver and Polk loudspeakers. It is not an expensive or high-end setup but provides very good quality sound for a reasonable price.I purchased this Monoprice speaker cable based upon the recommendation I read on the wirecutter website. They tested various brands and grades of cables and concluded that this was the best choice.Speaker cable comes in various gauges - essentially the thickness of the wire - and 12 gauge is heavier than what most people use. The most common is probably 16 gauge, and if you compared the two cable sizes side by side you would see that there is a substantial difference. Wirecutter found the the 12 gauge cable actually provided a discernible difference in sound quality. I can't say that I would be able to tell any difference myself, but why not spend a small amount more to get cable that is heavier and probably more durable? And if the sound is better too, then great!I initially purchased just one of the 50 foot spools, and as soon as I started to measure the lengths required to connect my speakers, I realized that I didn't have enough. Take measurements and calculate how much speaker cable you'll require before ordering! I would think that most installations will need at least 100 feet of cable for a 5.1 system (my system consists of two tower speakers in front, two stand mounted bookshelf speakers in the rear for surround, a center channel speaker and subwoofer). In the beginning I installed my speakers using this cable with bare wire connections, quickly learning that the heavy gauge wire is difficult to install to the receiver and speaker and deciding that banana plugs were needed to provide better and more secure contact with the speaker and receiver lugs. I then ordered and installed the Monoprice 24k Gold Plated Speaker Banana Plugs, Closed Screw Type (12 Pairs) for all of my speaker wire, at both ends (speaker and receiver). (I also found that my subwoofer wouldn't accept a bare wire connection anyway, so banana plugs were needed for that connection regardless of what I did with the other speakers). This 12 gauge speaker cable is heavier than any that my local stores carry (either Best Buy or Home Depot), even including their ridiculously priced 'premium' cables. Even though it is a heavier (and higher quality) cable, it is less expensive than those lighter gauge cables. In all respects I consider this an excellent value.5Buyer Beware! It does not seem like Monoprice authentic cable at all. I know Monoprice offers quality cheap cables but they have always come in a decent package that actually states that the Manufacturer is Monoprice and some specs are listed. This is definitely not authentic as what I received is simply wire. No mention whatsoever for what manufacturer it is and what the specs are.1Something is off with these wiresAWG states that...12 gauge wire has a resistance of 1.588 ohms per 1000 ft.For my center channel, I need a run of 4 ft, so (1.588 divided by 1000 ft) x 4 ft is .0064 Ohms.14 gauge resistance is 2.525 Ohm per 1000 ft or .01 Ohms per 4 ft section.Problem is...How do you measure mOhms since most multimeters are not that accurate? Here s one way.Need the following; wire that will be tested, multi-meter, bench power supply and 2 sets of test leads.Turn on power supply and keep voltage low 1-3 Volts, and set current to 1 Amp, test current w multi-meter just to make sure.Ohms law V= IR orV/I = R and this becomesV/1 = R since we have current set at 1 Amp and then simplifies toV = Rand we can test for voltage easily!4 wire Kelvin resistance of a wire connect the positive test lead to one side of the cable, and the other lead to the other end,. Now you have 1A of current running thru the cable. Now with the test leads connected to the multi-meter, measure for mV. Per Ohms law mV = mOhms since we have current set at 1A.Expected reading on 12 AWG of 6.4mV actual reading was 10mV, and 11mV once banana plugs were added. Results suggest this wire is 14AWG.Did same test on another set of 12AWG wire and results were 6.7mv and 7.8mv once banana plugs were added. Still a little higher than the expected 6.4mV this may be due to second wire s tin coating.1Monoprice 100-feet 14AWG High-Purity Wire I have used Monoprice cords and wires in the past and have been/am happy. 100 feet was handy for connecting various speakers. You seem to get what is expected and the pricing is affordable. Good quality and lower than many others make this a favorite form home and small business use. Buy only "oxygen free" wires to avoid oxidation.Small "c" shaped fasteners using a nail helps keep them be tacked to walls/baseboards so cabling does not lay over over the place.I recommend and would purchase this product again. 5Very impressedFirst off, I'm definitely an audiophile - I can hear and very much notice the subtle differences that can occur with different systems, speakers, wires, etc. I've used Monster Cable products for many years and have always been impressed. But when it came down to needing to replace my speaker wire since I moved, I did some research trying to find the happy medium between "overpriced to the point it can't possibly sound THAT much better for the price" and "cheap junk". I read a lot about Monoprice's products and they seemed to be top notch, get good reviews, and work for what I needed. I have Klipsch Reference Premiere Floorstanding towers/surrounds and always want to get the best possible sound and performance out of them. In my 20+ years being a huge fan when it comes to home theater, I've found that while speaker wire quality makes a difference, there is no need to spend 500 dollars on some of the upper tier wire. But at the same time, getting the cheapest spool of it from the rack at your local store isn't the best bet either. I'm telling you, you will notice a difference between the very inferior cheap stuff, and something like Monoprice. You'll obvioiusly notice the difference between the cheap stuff and the very expensive stuff too, but the point I'm trying to make is that you won't notice enough of a difference to justify the massive price difference. So that's where Monoprice came into play for me. Priced higher than a novice would buy, but priced much more affordable compared to Audioquest, this was what I chose. And I'm so happy I did. As soon as I got it and unravelled it, I could see and feel the quality of it. It's very, very well made, and a quality item. The nice blue line helps solidify the polarity so you can connect the wires to your speakers and amp correctly. And they are very well insulated in terms of the plastic around the copper wire itself. As for the sound...I know many won't agree that there is a discernible difference, and it may not be mind blowing to anyone. But I can tell you, there is a difference and I can tell how well this speaker wire is made and performs because the music was full and deep like it was with my Monster Cable wire that I replaced. It was just as good, if not better than Monster. Very happy with the product!5
