Perfect to manage those wall wartsI recently decided to get control of my collection of external hard drives and I very quickly ran into the curse of modern HD enclosures - the wall wart power supply. So many bricks! I ended up with power strips plugged into power strips just to get everything plugged in because each brick covered up a minimum of 3 plugs. Even the larger strips with the spread out plugs didn't solve it because I had a LOT of plugs and they normally have 2-4 that are spread out. Not this one. 8 plugs and each of them can take a wart! I was able to move all but two warts (kept them on a different strip for switching reasons) allowing me to power down until I need to use those drives. I also went from 5 power strips to two and no longer have any strips plugged into strips. I will be buying another for traveling use in location video shoots.Highly recommended.5It works great and looks nice and clean. This is a nice little surge protector. I like that the center has a long screw for replacing the one that would normally hold your outlet cover in place. The screw helps anchor the heavy(ish) surge protector to the outlet. I've had some similar outlet taps that did the same type of thing and the weight of them pulled them down and they weren't terribly secure. This one isn't going anywhere unless it's unscrewed. I have a similar Monoprice surge protector/extension cord for my computer equipment and it has the same green light to let you know it's receiving power. If you put it somewhere like next to a television I can see the green light being annoying or distracting, but I think it's a nice addition to let you know that the outlet is getting power if there's ever a power delivery issue to trace down. The USB chargers work fine; they output 2.1A which is enough to charge probably most phones and tablets relatively quickly, but it does not support the quick charge/rapid charge feature of newer phones like my Pixel. My only complaint, and it's a small one, is that the power outlets are a bit close together, so if you are plugging in something that uses a "wall wart" or an oversized plug you are almost certainly going to block the outlet directly next to it. I can't really fault the item for that, though, since it has to keep a relatively small profile or risk being an enormous white block stuck to your wall. I'd buy another one if I needed it.5Crazy-ass 12-outlet power strip with USB ports! Now here's a power strip that lets you plug in everything you can think of, AND charge a couple of phones while you do it! Who needs to plug in 8 regular sized power cables, 4 wall warts, and two USBs at the same time? I don't know, but I'm glad that I can now with the help of this crazy-ass power strip! There are also two freakin' sweet green LED (Kelly green, not celery green) lightpipes on either side of the unit that make the whole thing look totally wicked. Each plug has a sliding cover which is easy enough to move out of the way when you're plugging in. The USB ports charge my devices as expected. The whole unit is very lightweight, and is thinner than it looks, which makes me wonder how long it will last, but I'm not terribly worried about it.I mounted the power strip on the wall next to my office desk for all the plugging and unplugging that I find myself doing from time to time, and it suits my needs perfectly.5Adequate Protection and Good ValueThe Monoprice 8 outlet rotating surge strip works very well for me in a couple of tight locations with several electrical connections. I purchased two of these, one for use with a computer and peripherals in a small office and the other for use with a TV, sound bar, AV receiver, blu-ray player, cable modem, and router. The rotating plugs help handle various size electrical plugs and even assist with keeping the surge strip in place. I believe the 2160 joules protection offers adequate protection for my equipment from normal electrical surges. Lets face it, the insurance offered by the surge protector manufacturers is a marketing gimmick. No one will ever collect a dime in case of a catastrophic surge and equipment failure because of all of the restrictions, exceptions, and evidence required to prove the surge protector failed and was the cause of the damage to any equipment. My goal is to buy the best protection that I can get for a reasonable price that will protect my devices from normal electrical surges and hope for no nearby lightning strikes. I believe the Monoprice surge protector fits that objective well.5Almost burned down my house! After owning this surge protector for less than 9 months, I came home to a the smell of burning electronics and found it smoking in my living room. I certainly do not trust this power strip and expected better from a Monoprice product. If I hadn t come home in time, place could have lit up in flames.Do NOT buy spend the extra money on a 12 outlet one from Belkin (which literally last decades). 1Monoprice, worked for me!This Monoprice 12 outlet surge protector has been working well for me so far. The cord length was adequate for my situation leaving me with plenty of slack for rearranging if necessary. The design is sleek, low profile, and looks nice to the eye.My only gripe would have to be when plugging anything in to charge on the usb outlets I get a buzzing noise. This happens with my tablet, smartphones, and any accessories that I happen to charge on these ports. I don't know if that's normal, it's just odd seeing as I don't get that noise using wall chargers. Lastly, when I first opened the box and took out the surge protector it had a small piece of something inside tumbling around.Other then those gripes which subtracted only one star, I have been enjoying my Monoprice surge protector. No major malfunctions, no issues what so ever other then what was stated earlier. I would recommend this product to others looking for a decent amount of plugs on a surge protector with the added convenience of usb charging.4This is a great surge protector at a great price. This is a great surge protector at a great price. Six of the outlets rotate in order to fit any kind of plug. I don't see any combination of plugs you could not fit on this surge protector. Every plug is usable even when you have some odd shaped oversized AC adapters. This surge protector is well built and feels solid. I highly recommend this surge protector and Monoprice is a great company. I believe this item is the same as the version by Belkin and others that look identical except different colors and cost more. 5Easy to plug in large plugsI like this because it is so easy to plug in large ac adapter type things and still plug in other stuff right beside it. The only thing I don't like is my computer wants to unplug itself as the weight pulls down when that plug is rotated. But that is the shape and weight of that plug/adapter.5Stopped workingIt's nice while it lasts. I have had two of them stop working after using them for only a few months for one and a few weeks for the other. The Monoprice customer service requires you that you email their Amazon support, They won't even transfer you to speak to a rep. I emailed them and it took over two weeks for them to respond. (I suppose they could be busy with other customer's defective products, but still...).In the interim, the second outlet died. They are giving me the run around with requests for information when it is right in front of them. It's been an additional 2 weeks since I've heard from them. I'd pass on this.1Perfect for guitarists! If you play guitar in a band, you know that you end up with a variety of power supplies (wall worts) for all of your various effects pedals. Many of them are different voltages, and all have different orientations for the plugs and the DC supply cords. In most cases, on a 6-outlet strip you can only use 3 outlets because the wall worts interfere with each other. With this outlet strip that problem goes away. Yes, I could buy one of the fancy pedal supplies that cost over $100, but I'd rather save my money to buy more guitars. 5Great product and priceMy trust in Monoprice has yet to be misplaced. The specs on this thing make it an excellent surge protector. If you are looking to actually protect your equipment and not just provide extra electrical outlets, this is a great buy for the price. Do some research and you'll notice that other surge protectors fall short when it comes to < 1 nanosecond response time and other things. So when buying look for the previous requirement and the UL 1449 rating. The higher the joules, the better. The lower the clamping voltage, the better, and you want around 400V and lower. This product meets those requirements but doesn't state so on Amazon but does on Monoprice's website.5I am in love with my Monoprice surge protector! Can a surge protector be sexy as all get out? Because I love the looks of this thing. The size of it. (Stop that, no smart comments!) It's much thinner than the ones I have had previously. The spacing of the outlets allows me to position all size plugs and the charging ports are perfect. They charge my devices in no time flat. The casing is a nice glossy finish and thinner than the others I have had. Though it does take up a bit more room because of the spacing of the outlets it's not a major deal to me. It has cool green strip lights on either side., which I may have to cover over somehow, because I woke up in the middle of the night thinking space aliens had landed and were going to kidnap me. (Seriously! The glowing green ceiling scared the bejesus out of me before I rmembered it was there..) I currently have 5 items plugged in, with more than enough room for other things that come out seasonally like fans. All in all though I REALLY love this and am going to order another.5This product will adversely affect your WiFi speedsThe short version of this review, for those not wishing to read the long version, is that this power strip blocked the WiFi signals from my router causing months of headaches, money, and time trying to sort out our internet issues. This power strip has built in RFI and EMI filters which is the only thing I can think of as the culprit. Definitely do not recommend this product. For the first time in about 3 months my internet is working again. Although I didn't make the connection until recently, my internet started to have serious issues around the same time I started using this product in the same room as my WiFi router. My connection would drop from 70Mbps to numbers like 0.16Mbps or 0.67Mbps, which effectively means your internet stalls completely since nothing can operate at such slow speeds. This would happen a few times per hour and last for 5-10 minutes at a time, sometimes more. I replaced my router, modem box, had them send out techs to inspect our equipment and lines, and nothing solved the issue, This went on for about 3 months and ended up costing a few hundred dollars in the end after replacing routers and such.Eventually I had a weird hunch that it could be this power adapter. Initially I was thinking it could be an issue with the modem and router being connected to the same power brick, so I switched them over to an old power strip for a day. Nothing changed, but during this time I was also reading through all of the reviews here to see if anyone had a similar issue. I noticed in the item description that it has RFI and EMI filters (to block external interference, although I am not sure why this is needed in a power strip). So while keeping the modem and router connected to a separate outlet, I turned off the power to this Monoprice brick. Immediately, my internet shot up from under 1Mbps to its normal 68-70Mbps (monitoring using the Speedtest app on my phone). I turned the brick power back on, and after about 15 seconds, the internet dripped again to almost zero. I did this over and over for about 15 minutes and every single time the brick was on, no internet. When the brick was off, the internet speeds were normal.I now have a new power brick/surge protector and have had the first few days of functional internet in months. I never suspected anything like this was possible. It only affected the actual speeds of the internet, not the WiFi signal, so it was very hard to track down. I can't fathom why this feature is even needed, but it definitely was not designed properly since it essentially created a bubble where my WiFi signal could not get through. My room is small so I cannot place my router further than a few feet from the power strip. If you have this product in a different area of the house than your main router, I am not sure if it will have the same effects. However, it might still block the WiFi speeds for the devices plugged into this brick and close by. Since it was located near my router it slowed our internet for the entire house. Had this been used downstairs, maybe it would have only affected devices near the strip itself. Obviously I am not going to use this product any more to find out.Either way, this product was a waste of money, and caused me hundreds of dollars over the course of a few months. I can't return it so I will just throw it in the trash. Hopefully my headaches can help someone troubleshoot their issues in the future.1
