Customer Reviews

I don t usually let damaged boxes affect my review, but...Received the product double boxed (a spool of cable on a reel/bracket, in a box designed to let you pull wire without opening, and in another Amazon shipping box) with no visible damage to either box, and the entire (plastic) spool and the plastic (again, go figure) bracket were in pieces and it would not feed wire very easily. I wired an entire house having to muscle wire out of it instead of free-flow wire feeding. Huge pain in ... At this point I m hoping the wires aren t plastic too 210Gb speeds but works only at 100Mb/s speedsPlease don't buy. Poor quality. Waste of money. The outer jacket itself is not strong, peels off easily. When I connected 200ft segment the speed went down to 100mbps. I should have tested this before wasting time installation through attic and drywall :( 1good sturdy cableI used this to run a POE system for security cameras up in my attic. Not really necessary for my current camera system but we plan on staying in this house for a long time and I decided it was worth future-proofing it now with Cat6A instead of Cat5E.The cable feels well made. It is quite substantial, about twice as thick at Cat5E. The conductors are solid copper, and the sheathing seems pretty rugged. It has been working great with my cameras and I feel confident that this will hold up over time. There are 10ea boots and connectors included in the box. I used the boots - they were great since they were the right size, the universal RJ45 ones are a very tight fit - but I opted to use pass-through connectors instead of their crimp connectors. The included connectors look like they'd be fine, but I didn't want to have to worry about if I'd made a good connection or not since I was working in the attic. This was my first time using pass-through connectors and I don't think I'll ever be going back! 5Great Cable, Thick Jacket, StiffI ran this cable all over my 4 bedroom house. My office was established downstairs when we moved in and I had conduit run from the bottom floor up to the attic. From there I installed a single drop to every room in the house, plus 3-4 extra lines for cameras and additional backups. The runs went pretty smoothly, but the cable was tough to pull through the conduit. I have about 12 lines running through a single 2 inch conduit. After running about 4 lines, it began to get tough. By the last 2-3 I was really fighting to get it to move a foot at a time. I'm not sure if it was due to the thickness of the cable, or a combination that and the grooves on the cable jacket. The cable:The cable is Cat6A UTP (Unshielded Twisted Pair). It's solid copper strands, with a center spline, and a rip cord (which doesn't really help cut the jacket. The jacket is thicker than most cables, and in fact couldn't be stripped with a simple stripper. I had to use another tool to carefully cut the jacket back. The jacket has grooves in it, which is unusual. As for stiffness, this cable is stiff compared to cat6 and cat5e. I would say it's best used for wall runs, and I wouldn't use it for exterior runs if I had a choice. I bought enough to do all my external and internal wall runs, so I'm stuck with it at the moment.A final note. I terminated all those 12 runs into a single wall plate, which made it difficult to flex the cables back into the wall cavity far enough to get the plate mounted on the wall. Thats a note to it's stiffness. It's not a big deal, but I would advise having a good mounting point rather than using a remodel box that just uses drywall. It works, but I fear that my drywall could have given out and made my hole bigger. 4If speed is your thing, DO NOT BUY!Bought this spool because I needed to run some CAT6 outside along the side of my home, to connect a few rooms together. I wanted something with shielding and with UV resistance since the cable will be in direct sunlight for part of the day.The cable itself is very sturdy, very stiff. I do believe it would hold up for years without issue.Like one of the other reviewers said, I REALLY wish I had both a) tested the cable for speeds before installation, and b) actually read these reviews with an eye on transfer speeds. After installation, with CAT6 all the way down the line, I was only getting 100mbps transfer speeds. With my gigabit internet connection this was completely unacceptable. IN ADDITION TO THIS, the cable couldn't actually transfer much faster than ~75mbps. Totally abysmal.I was troubleshooting every component in the chain from my router to the PC, this included shorter CAT6 patch cables, wall-outlet plates, and this cable. The cause? THIS CABLE!I did a test with an unshielded indoor CAT5e cable and suddenly my PC's link-speed was up to 1000mbps, and the transfer speeds reflected that. I'm going to temporarily keep using this indoor CAT5e cable until a new spool comes in.I will be returning this. 1This is NOT 23AWG! It's 26AWG!This is NOT 23AWG! It's 26AWG!Was excited to find 6A at a reasonable price, but I was FOOLED!Now I have to find another retailer last minute!ITEM: Micro Connectors 500' Stranded Shielded (STP) CAT6A Bulk Ethernet Cable - Blue (TR4-570SSBL-500) 1Hefty and worksI wired the house with both Cat6 UTP Riser Rated and this Cat6A UTP CM rated wire. This Cat6A wire is definitely a thicker cable overall, but the wire gauge is the same (23awg). I can't speak to whether it will work for 10GbE networks with distances of 100m or more, but for my 1GbE home setup with switches and POE powered wired access points, the cable works as it should. The included RJ45 connectors and cable jackets were a nice inclusion. With the unused cable remaining after wiring the house, I did terminate some various length cables with the RJ45 connectors though I think this cable is better suited for keystone or patch panel termination due to its heftiness and the solid core copper wires. 5Great quality, but hard to work with.Excellent quality. Hard to work with though, due to the thick outer jacket and the overall diameter of the wire. These are as thick as outdoor extension power cord. I thought at first I had bought outdoor wire suitable for burial as thick as the insulation is, need to drill much bigger holes to run thru walls. Was tempted to buy cheaper wire and save this for my next house, but decided by then standards may change, so I am using it now. The connectors it came with are three-piece - difficult to work with, I used one-piece connectors I already had instead. 5AmazingThis was my first time working with cat6a. The cable was a bit stiff and you had to work for a clean installation but it is doable. I am so happy with this cable and quality cat6a RJ45 connections are a must with this cable. My Speeds are up and latency is at a all time low for me in my network. I couldn't be happier with my purchase and choice of cable. 5good cable! It got snagged a bit easy, and 2 out of 25 100 foot runs got nicked up on the outer jacket from fishing and pulling lines...Still a great cable. Using shielded connectors , likely overkill for most small bus or residential use....But the connection and crimping is what's a PITA! had to watch videos a few times, and installer that does 5E all day had trouble with it. 4
