Customer Reviews

Bright liteI love it. Nice and bright5It's a good lightA great flashlight but not without some things that could be better.Brightness and throw are good. Is it 524 lumens projected out 366 meters like the specs say? Probably not. My 200 lumen 200 meter LedLenser is almost equivalent. However, I'm using re-chargeable D cells which run at a lower voltage than the alkaline D's that are recommended. Using the alkaline D's will probably get this flashlight to the peak spec values... but they won't run as long as my NiMh batteries. I'm trading off a little bit of performance in exchange for longer battery life. The button operation is great; love it. I'm SOOOO glad it does not require the user to click through every mode in order to turn the flashlight off. Click to turn on. Click ONCE to turn off. Two fast clicks to turn on will put you in medium brightness; three fast clicks will put you in low brightness. Whichever brightness you are in, though, it only takes one click to turn off.The optics on this thing are embarrassing. "1/4 turn to go from flood to spot"? Ok. I would not call anything this flashlight puts out as a flood or a spot, they are close resemblances, but not even close to the flood and spot beams that the expensive flashlights put out. It took Maglite FOREVER to get on board with LED lighting. Now they need to get on board with hiring some real Optics Engineers and doing some actual design work on the front end. This flood/spot beam is just fine for general purpose, it just bugs me when a product is bordering on greatness but is being held back by some cheesy elements. The flashlight is pretty rugged. My cat was being attacked by another cat and I threw this flashlight about 30 ft across the yard with no damage or ill effect. Some flashlights cannot take a 3 ft drop much less a 30 ft throw.Even though I'm picky about some things, I would buy this again, and I wouldn't be embarrassed to give this as a gift.EDIT Jun26, 2016:Changed from 5 to 2 stars. The flashlight lens seems to be permanently stained. I don't know what got on there, but it won't wipe off. I unscrewed the lens so that I can try to buff it out, but still no. The stain is still there, and now disassembled, I see how CHEAP the lens is. I think it's just a normal piece of transparent plastic! Definitely not glass... and doesn't seem like the good polycarbonate or acrylic plastic... just a cheap feeling and looking plastic like what might be found on children's toy's.I'm trying hard to like this thing and give it the benefit of the doubt, but after seeing the cheap crap material they use for a lens, I'm getting resentful. They brag about being American made, they charge you premium prices as if this was a world-class flashlight, and then they give you cheap workmanship and amateur optics.I think I'm done with Maglite for the forseeable future.2Not the same quality as older Maglite'sI have owned a pile of MAG-LITE's over the past 30 years of various sizes because they make quality products here in the USA.This light is by far the best of the bunch !I got the Urban Gray and really like the color. The light seems to be no bigger diameter than older C cell MAG-LITE's I own and is significantly lighter than older D cell lights.I'm hoping the durability hasn't suffered by making it lighter , only time will tell...Update-I am changing my review from 5 stars to 4 stars , here is why...At first glance the ML300LX MAG-LITE is awesome. It is bright and is smaller diameter than older D cell's. I really like the grip pattern and multi function electronic switch and the fact that it's LED.I wish that you could program it specifically for the functions you want instead of having to settle for 1 of 4 choices. I would prefer momentary on , hi and low , so had to settle on one of the 4 options. It should have had the 4 function options engraved on the flashlight , so you have the instructions available and can quickly switch to another option without having to play around to find what you may need at a later time. Here is the huge downside and why I'm lowering my rating of this flashlight to 4 stars-I ordered the replacement glass lens for this light so I'm not dealing with scratches on the polycarbonate lens when cleaning dust and dirt off of it. It should come with a higher quality lens to start with , for a USA made product that advertises that it's high quality and costs what this does.I can forgive that inexpensive flaw , but...When I took the lens out to replace it , and saw how the reflector and spot/flood assembly was designed , it made me sick! The assembly is made of cheap plastic with cheap plastic gears that zoom in and out as you rotate the head its 1/4 turn.It won't take much for these plastic gears to become stripped out , losing the ability to change between spot and flood.Another con -The head of the flashlight IS NOT THREADED AND DOES NOT ATTACH TO THE BODY OF THE FLASHLIGHT BY BEING SCREWED ON !Don't take my word for it , see for yourself by doing the following.Unscrew the lens and remove the plastic reflector assembly by pulling it straight out from the flashlight. Then push down on the head and it will slide straight down the body of the light. The only thing keeping the head of the flashlight on is the plastic reflector being held in place by having the lens assembly screwed on.Because the head of the light isn't actually attached to the body , the only thing that keeps water out is a small rubber O ring.Use this light to club someone in an emergency and the plastic reflector will likely break and the flashlight will fall apart.I'm extremely disappointed !For 50+ bucks and from a company like MAG-LITE , I would have expected way more !I'd rather pay a few bucks more for quality than to pay a lot for something that has a serious design flaw and likely won't last.I was generous by giving this light 4 stars when their choice to cut corners really only deserves two or three stars...If my review was helpful for you then please take the time to click on the "helpful" button below. Thanks !3Still the best. This may very well be the best Maglite to date!Very, very bright and versatile.5gave this a a gift to an ol army guy who loved the gripthis thing came in the coolest box. a cardboard box fist time ive seen a maglite in a cardboard box. the grip on this is also the bomb..no quite literally shaped after a grenade. gave this a a gift to an ol army guy who loved the grip. this is also the brightest maglite i've seen. i had trouble letting it go..this light has me starting my mag-lite obsession back up again!!! o did i mention the flat green this thing comes in is awesome!!5It's real easy to switch modesIt's very lite. Perfect while walking the Dog.5Super high quality flashlight. MagLite is still the best. This is one hell of a flashlight. Very bright and batteries last super long. Love this light. Best money I have spent in a long time and definitely worth the buck.5Five StarsExtremely bright with strobe function5This product is effective. This is a very bright light. It's just the right weight. Very durable.5Five StarsGood product5
