Customer Reviews

Bad video ghosting, mouse dropped randomlyThis is the fifth or sixth IOGEAR KVM I have owned and I have always been very happy with them in the past. As it has become more and more difficult to find PS/2 keyboards, I decided that it was time to replace my IOGEAR GCS138KIT (an 8 port PS/2 KVM) with this one. The first problem was that the mouse wasn't working. I fixed this by unplugging and replugging the mouse into the KVM and figured it wasn't anything to worry about. Then came the video quality. At first glance, it looked fine. Then, I opened a terminal window and noticed that the ghosting was very bad whenever the background was dark or black. I experimented with some of the cables, even changed the cable to my monitor, but it didn't make any difference. During my testing, the mouse would randomly stop working and I would again have to unplug and replug it from the KVM. I replaced my Logitech MX310 wired USB mouse with a generic optical USB mouse, reset the KVM a couple times and pulled the power on the KVM and reconnected but the problem continued. Between the video quality and the disappearing mouse problem, I decided to return the KVM and go back to my PS/2 KVM until another alternative could be found. There is always some ghosting when you're using a KVM - especially at higher resolutions. It's the price you pay for the convenience of a KVM. But this was totally unacceptable in my opinion, especially since much of my work is done with white on black terminals and the ghosting was so much more pronounced with light on dark images.Again, I have had many IOGEAR products and have always been happy with them up until now. This one experience won't sour me on IOGEAR, but I was less than pleased with this one item. 2Works as advertizedI have been using quite a lot of different brand of KVM switches with various ports from 2 to 24 Ports. I like to use ATEN product, but it is quite expensive to use, so I had to look for different manufacture such as Belkin or IOGEAR. Since no problem to use both of them, so I gave a shot to use IOGEAR which seemed a pretty good deal. It works great without any issue. Being able to use either PS2 cable or USB cable on the same KVM switch is another reason why I chose. 5be prepare to be scrod-upThis unit start acting weird after 5-6 month of use, i've replaced the keyboard and mouse, i've try to install an driver update which failed to install, called for tech support for help, and they talked me that by warranty Iogear will replace the unit after they will receive the defected one, mean time what a ...k i have to do with 14 pc's connected to this switch ? 1Great ProductWe use this at work and it helps us out a great deal and allows us to connect 2 computers to use with only 1 monitor. IOGEAR is a great product. 5Great concept. Merry new and old computers/servers on single rackGreat idea! Connect both PS/2 servers and USB-ONLY Pcs on a single rack; just use different cable. My kit came with 4 PS/2 and 4 USB cables,4 x 6ft of each and 4 x 10ft of each. Great KVM with programmable on screen display of port selection and ability to setup user name and password right at the KVM console. Local users have to get past this security before they can even touch the servers. Highly recommended. Solid construction, easy setup. 5Wow! This is a great switchWow! This is a great switch. The switch - side connection is a single connector. The computer side can either be USB or PS-2. So you can mix and match with new and old equipment. 5Working well for it's intended purposeI like the ability to use one keyboard and mouse to control up to 8+ computers 5Five StarsBeen working for a while now, 9 servers. no problems. 5I got gypped on cables, too!I read where a lot of folks were shored cable sets when ordering these IOGEAR KVMs. I thought these orders might have been a result of some mfg shortages, and surely those have been fixed. Well, my 4 USB and 4 PS/2 cable sets were shorted one type each. I got 3 x 3 rather than 4 x 4.Pretty amazing consistency here. 4The device it self is not so bad, but the support is horribleThe device it self is not so bad, but the support is horrible. I have been waiting a week for some response to my initial problem, when I call back support the person I deal with is always in a meeting. The answer i get is that when they know something they will contact me, The professional thing would have been to respond to my email with that message instead of me chaing support downI found this post that has my issue, yet support still has nothing to tell me1.0 out of 5 starsdoes not work with Windows Server 2003Byevanguion March 15, 2012Model: 8-port with 4 USB & 4 PS/2 KVM cable|Verified PurchaseThis device does not work with my servers running Windows Server 2003 although the description shows it supports Windows OS. Not every KVM switch is independent to OS. As today, iogear customer service told me it does not work with Windows server 2008. So do not chose this product if you need it for Windows servers unless iogear updates it. 1
