Indispensable on Oahu For beach scenes and capturing deep blues in the skies, I found this filter indispensable for a recent trip to Oahu. The lens is well-built, with smooth rotation, and very good light transmission. The lens helped produce excellent results, and was shallow enough to not cause aberrations or vignetting in the corners of the image. 5Excellent quality and functionalityExcellent quality and functionality! Threads on my lens perfectly, and turns smoothly with just a little resistance. There is absolutely no wobble to it like 1 other reviewer said their unit had. It came with some fingerprints on it so even though it was sold as "new" I'd have say that was a lie because Hoya doesn't package their filters with any fingerprints or even a spec of dust in their plastic containers. The seller I bought it from will be reported. Other than that, it works very well, has almost no undesired reflections even when shooting toward the sun because of the multi-layer coatings, and it adjusts smoothly to dial in just the right amount of polarization for the shot I want. I'm ordering a similar priced B&W CPL filter and will compare them but from the reviews I've read so far I think this is the better deal for the same price. The B&W filter is a little more expensive but reviewers say it lets a little more light through so your shuttle speed isn't slowed quite as much.5Pretty nice polarizerI own several B+W kasemann polarizers and some other brands that are up to 30 years old!A polarizer is a must for landscapes and outdoors in good light to cut reflections and increase color saturation.I like the turning resistance on this polarizer and its feel. Just right, not too stiff and not too loose. Seems vey well made. The colors are also extremely good, maybe the B+Ws seem better but I haven't really compared that objectively , and have not really pushed it in extreme situations with flare etc. so far.The hardened glass is a plus and they are easy to clean. They are a lot brighter than the older polarizers, seems they let almost twice the light in, which is a plus when focussing (mainly).5Great Cir-Pol FfilterI've got absolutely no complaints about this circular polarizing filter. Due to the 8-layer coating on the glass, fingerprints either don't appear or are easily removed if they do happen to stick. The frame is very slim yet strong. The rotating action of the filter is very smooth. The glass itself is thin and has good light transmission. I have been wearing Oakley Polarized sunglasses for a while and when I bought a camera I wondered if the same effect was possible. Not only was it possible with the Hoya filter, it was modifiable.Something I always have shown to friends about my sunglasses is the weird, but cool effect of turning your head with the sunglasses on. It changes the color of the sky, removes reflections, allows you to see through some tinted glasses (via removal of said reflections) and greatly enhances contrast. The filter does the same thing! But I don't have to tilt the camera to do so. With the Hoya HD CIR-PL you are able to simply mount the filter to your camera and turn the rotatable mount to add, remove, or modify the effect of the filter. You can leave the reflections if you want them, leave a little bit to add some customization or remove them from the picture almost all together.One of the awesome things I loved most is the ability to remove reflections from water and glass. We have horses here at the house and the water troughs can get pretty dirty. But with reflections you wouldn't be completely able to see though the water to see the floaties or the grime that is being left behind. With this filter it did an awesome job of being able to see through the reflections of the water and see into the water. This effect could be used to photograph fish, underwater plants and swimmers!So in in short. If you are looking for an artistic way to change a few colors in your photos, this filter is for you. If you are looking to look through some of the glare and reflection created by light sources, this filter is for you. If you wear polarized glasses and want to add that sweet effect of tilting your head to your photos, this filter is for you.5Tough Filter With Great ClarityFor me, always Hoya HD. I have had to wash mud off them on two occasions, with no harm at all to the filter. Fingerprints really do not stick. The clarity is remarkable for both digital and film photography.5I have been wanting/needing this for years!It's great that it offers the same type of protection as the UV/Haze filter from Hoya (which I own in two different sizes to keep on my lenses all the time as a protective factor). I also like that it lets in more light than other polarizers.The only downside to me is that it is so thin that it makes it hard to attach/detach from the camera. If you can get it screwed on tightly enough that you don't accidentally unscrew it when trying to rotate the polarizer, then it is extremely difficult to get off! If you are leaving it on all the time then it's really no problem, but you don't always want it on there, so that makes it a little difficult.Other than that it is super awesome and I'm really glad I got this over the cheaper ones. It was worth the slightly higher price.5Better than expectedI wanted a sturdy filter for my new Nikon lens and searched through Amazon's lame search engine. It came down to either the Nikon or the Hoya HD and based on further searches I decided on the Hoya HD. After I received it I compared it to a Vivitar circular polarizing filter side by side in various lighting conditions and the Hoya HD definitely clearer, sharper and allows more light to pass through. It may cost 10x more than the cheap filters, but I believe it is worth every bit of the difference. If it is half as sturdy as Hoya claims, that alone would be worth the difference in price on an expensive lens; but the multi coating puts it over the top in my opinion.5Good FilterIt works fine with Canon 16-35mm f/2.8 II on 5D Mark III. No vignetting is found at the widest angle. It has front threads to stack more filters (probably not for wide angle lens) or put lens cover. Canon lens cover stays well and never fell off.Before buying this, I was fooled by the number of customer reviews of B+W 82mm CP slim filter at B&H and purchased it; I was worried about vignetting of normal thickness filters. B+W filter doesn't have front threads and instead comes with a cheap plastic cover. I returned it immediately after finding such a dumb design. Fortunately the return was smooth, and I found the right CP filter at Amazon for my wide angle lens.5
