Customer Reviews

I then used other earphones on the same devices and had very good sound volumeI only had these for two weeks when I noticed the sound gradually lowering in volume. I tried them on several electronic devices, with no difference - still a low volume. I then used other earphones on the same devices and had very good sound volume. That is how I knew it was a problem with these earphones and not with my devices. I am very careful with my earphones and all of my electronic devices; they typically last much longer than normal. I am sure I did not damage these earphones in any way. I am very disappointed that I paid the amount of money that I did for these earphones, hoping their description was correct, that they were heavy duty. I thought I would have them for many years and was shocked that they started going out two weeks after purchase.1Built Like a Tank ... But Sounds Like a Tank, too.** 2 Stars ** No question about the build quality, and the limited lifetime warranty is a big plus. But any listening device must also have at least adequate sound quality, and sadly, these do not. Even after 70 hours of burn-in, these are the worst ear buds I've ever paid money for - the free buds that come with iPods and iPhones sound better. Honestly. When I use the RNF's on my phone, the voice on the other end sounds like they're talking through a washcloth... and with music of any kind, the sound is even worse - it's all very muddy, muddy. Basically un-listenable. The bass is sloppy and undefined, the mids are terrible, and the treble is almost non-existent. I tried listening to a movie through them, and had to give up - I could not understand most of the dialogue. Thanks to Amazon's awesome customer service, I have returned the RNFs. If you buy these, you will probably do the same.2If durability is all you care about, these are great. If you care about audio quality at all, pass.Okay, I'll start with the good: the do seem to be durable as hell. Everything's super reinforced, blah blah, you can look at their advertising. All that's true. I think the shape and reinforcement of the jack is particularly nice, as that's a common point of failure. Some people have complained about the coord being too thick or heavy, but I thought it was fine. I didn't notice any more than any other pair of headphones. They aren't very comfortable and do tend to slip out of your ears, but I swapped out the pads for a spare pair of marshmallow pads I had from an old set of headphones (JVCs) and that took care of that problem. So why only 3 stars? The audio quality is, in my opinion, terrible. It's about what I would expect for the overly priced $5 headphones you get on an airplane. Yes, these headphones are pretty cheap, but many headphones less than half the price sound better (eg the AmazonBasic ones, the aforementioned JVCs, etc) and comparably priced headphones blow these out of the water (my pair of Xiaomi Piston IIIs sound so much better it's not even funny). These are fine for audiobooks, but with music, highs and lows completely disappear. I couldn't understand people on the other end when I used these for phone conversations.3Couldn't be happier. OhBeen using these for 10 hours a day at work in a machine shop. The cord has been snagged countless times- a few on sharp metal. Plenty of wear on that stop button too when I have to talk to the guys I work with. It's been about 6 months now and they're still going. This is after the first 6 months I worked there going through 5 or six other brands. So I bought two more of these ultra-durable RNFs: one for home and one for the car, and I suspect it'll be years and years before I have to buy any more. Couldn't be happier. Oh! I have noticed what some other reviewers mentioned that they fall out of your ears easily. This is true of the plugs they come with. I replaced them with the spare rubber inserts (without any trouble at all, btw, they're meant to be switched out), that I had in a drawer saved from all the crappy pairs of cheaper headphones that broke, and it solved the problem entirely.5Rugged But NOT Sweat Proof! They lasted about three months. I work construction and my buds are constantly getting pulled on, detached, etc. The wire its nice and thick and the splitter connection seemed rugged. Neither of those things were an issue (other than the wire being so thick it actually hung out from my body), I believe the issue was sweat. When it's 90+ degrees in the shade and 85% humidity most people tend to sweat a lot. The sweat got into the single button controller and made it do things it wasn't supposed to i.e. random volume changes, skipping songs or chapters, pausing songs and audio books, random rewinds. The fact that the audio is slightly muffled and lacking in treble (needed for audio books and news/pod casts) was something I was willing to try to overlook but toss in all the other problems and threse are a no buy.1You can't do better for toughness and sound quality at twice the priceThese are the the real deal. I have tinnitus and sleep with earphones while softly listening to a digital book. This takes my mind off the ringing in my ears and allows me to fall and stay asleep. What with the tossing and turning at night, I am really hard on earbuds. I was buying the really cheap ones once a month or so because that was as long as they lasted. However, the cheap ones have such poor sound quality, I would often have a hard time understanding the reader. These are not Bose quality but they are quite decent enough to provide very good sound quality for both music and Audible books. If you are looking for a very tough set of earbuds that will last and provide good sound quality for music at a very inexpensive price, buy these!5Awful sound quality. Deceptive "durability"First off do not buy these if you are any level of audiophile. These are very muddy and highs get lost in the mix. The Samsung stock headphones sound better. In regards to the oft-touted "ultra rugged" durability... these are not durable at all. Went through two pairs (via their warranty) in less than a year. Sure the cabling is bulky, but the connections wear out just as fast as any $10 headphones. The cabling is very thick and inflexible, so I guess they're rugged if you're worrying about a pinch, but connections to earpieces, pause dongle, etc go out just as often as any headphone you've ever used. I had an earpiece completely lose sound on each pair of these I've owned. Note that I am also very meticulous about wrapping and storing them in a safe place.Don't waste your money.1Kid vs HeadphonesAs a joke I purchased 50 pairs of $.50 cent in-ear headphones for my niece, who went through headphones like pairs of underwear's. Unfortunately, they only worked with anything but Apple products. The longest a pair of headphones lasted was one month, the Sentey X360. Don't even know that brand, but it got some miles in. Every pair I have purchased for her in the last two years, Panasonic, Sony, Skullcandy, etc... broke one way or another due to either heavy use, travel or handling. Other pairs, just were not compatible with IOS products. I bought these bad boys in October of this past year. The description made it sound very lasting and after reading some other reviews I gave it a whirl. I basically told my niece, if this doesn't work then I give up and you're stuck using the remaining 30 pairs! Not only are these still working, they have good sound quality and IOS compatible. No more Suri interruptions! She also loves the military color. However, she wasn't too fond of my description when I told her that I had to go to a special military store to find a pair that will survive live combat just for her. LOL I'm sticking to that story.5DefectiveI'm lacking for the appropriate terminology so bear with me. The first pair I got, the jack portion that inserts into your device failed more or less. My phone no longer recognized it had headphones plugged in while my laptop pushed sound through them intermittently.I bought these headphones specifically because they advertised durability. So I figured this was a fluke and I activated my warrenty. The company sent me another pair. This time the inline mic is malfunctioning. It is always active, as in, I can hear feedback from it when I'm just sitting listening to audio and it should not be activated at all.I am very disappointed with this product and after going through the warranty process once, I am giving up and considering my money lost.1Solid and ruggedized. Well worth the money.I'm very rough on headphones. A pair of typical ear buds lasts me about a month or two on average. I have had these headphones for 8 months now and they are still working. The sound quality is pretty good for earbuds and for the price definitely acceptable. Overall great build quality. The only thing I wish these headphones had is better in line controls with volume. It seems flimsy, but has not yet shorted or broken.UPDATE: funny story, these headphones started shorting out 2 days after posting this. I still stand by what I said in the review. These are great heavy duty budget headphones.4
