Customer Reviews

Absolutely essential for any emergency kitProbably the best manual charge flashlight I've ever tried using. Just a minute of cranking will give you at least 3 times that of a fairly bright light. I haven't tested or timed it but every time I've used it, I just cranked it for maybe 10 seconds every minute and that keeps the charge up without noticeable dimming. The crank charger folds down into the flashlight body for streamlined storage and there is a carabiner hook on the back to hook it on some gear or on your body or in a car or w/e. When the power goes out and things are pitch black, being able to create light is both comforting and essential on a practical level, allowing you to see and do things safely. They're so cheap that I ended up buying a half dozen and have one in both our cars, in the kitchen, bedroom, bathroom and in my bug out bag.5Excellent little light for the price. This is a great little light. As a couple other reviewers stated, it is somewhat smaller than I anticipated. However, I've come to appreciate the way it fits and feels in my hand. The beam is actually bright and the unit is reasonably rugged. My personal experience now that I've had this for several weeks is that the light shines at least 3 times longer than cranked. Several tests at night reveal that most of the time it's closer to 4 times the amount of time cranked. Keep light on until it dies, then crank for one minute and then time how long the light lasts. Pretty close to four minutes. My only concern is that the crank is lightly built. But reasonable care should keep this little baby cranking for a long time. You can't beat the price and I'm going to get another one as I like this light that much. I'm very happy with it! 5Perfect little hand-held flashlight for emergencies or for lighting your way around a dark basement.I didn't need a radio. I didn't need something that could charge my iPhone. I just needed a flashlight that would be always ready or could be made ready within a few seconds without fumbling for batteries. This flashlight was perfect for my need.I've had it for about a year and a half now and it continues to work perfectly. A few cranks every now and then has kept it charged and it still works and looks like a new device even though I've dropped it a few times. The carabiner-type clip is handy. The handle is a little stubby but since it doesn't have to be cranked very often or for very long to keep it at 100% it's not a big deal.5But it's still good to have aroundThe cranked charge really doesn't last very long at a usable strength, and fades fast. I've had to continually crank it while using it in order to make it work for me. But it's still good to have around. Possibly a plug in rechargeable flashlight with a bigger battery would have a longer lasting glow. I think in a sense having a crank flashlight is kind of gimmicky -- some project manager type at Energizer's "hey!" idea. I suppose an apocalypse scenario would prohibit the use of a plug-in rechargeable flashlight. So preppers should probably own a few of these. Also (perhaps most importantly) THE CRANK BROKE. So, maybe it should be 1 star. But maybe it was just a manufacturing fluke with my particular iteration.3Survival Kit Must! This flashlight is exceptional. It is the perfect addition to our survival kit. It maintains its brightness and lasted well over 2 1/2 hours without re-cranking during night cycling.Initially, I bought two- one for the survival kit and one for the house. I will be ordering several to give to friends. This is so much safer than candles. Furthermore, it is economical and practical because one does not have purchase/check batteries. And no, I m not getting paid for this review!5Can't go wrong with this oneThese are my all-time favorite flashlights. I ordered three in 2014 and another one this year to put in emergency go-bags for my family. They're a way, way better choice than battery-operated flashlights for emergency bags, because they'll be ready for business even if they sit in the bag for years. The crank handle is easy to rotate, and the light output far outreaches my battery-operated flashlights (plus, I don't have to feel guilty about disposing rarely used batteries!). The carabineer hook is great for camping--I can hook it to the tent at night or to my belt loop while hiking during the day. This is a great, can't-go-wrong product.5What a fun light and useful too This is not an expert review, I've never owned nor used a crank light before. I'm not a cave diver, mountain climber of any other kind of sport enthusiast who would know the ins and outs of the different kinds of equipment used for lighting. I just know that this flashlight produces a nice amount of light, enough to light up the sidewalk after dark thereby illuminating any doggy turds left behind (I seem to possess an uncanny knack for finding the slimy piles with my clean and colorful sneakers). The crank is easy to use and sturdy enough that I don't worry that in my enthusiasm I might snap it off.The light is small enough to clip onto a shoulder bag or off of a belt for easy travel. The light has a nice sized grip handle and is pretty lightweight so that an hour's walk after dark doesn't leave you feeling that you need to work on increasing your upper body strength.Last of all, it's fun to use. There's something kinda cool about winding the crank on this for light. I usually hand it off to my son and he's always a little over zealous in the winding, but like I said before, this is a pretty durable light. 5Meh. Not bad, not great, just... meh. While it works as advertised, the "carabiner" portion of the light, which was one of the features that made this item interesting, is largely useless. It's plastic, and tugging on the gate (the red "loop" portion) allows the nose to pop past the gate, rendering the carabiner useless until you fix it. Even when operable, the gate provides a clearance of only 1/4", making it unsuitable for most applications involving an actual carabiner. Despite the name, it's not waterproof, or even water-resistant.The light this item projects is quite reasonable given both its size and crank time. The crank itself, though, is difficult to stow once opened - the tiny plastic "pivot point" at the end of the crank can be tucked back into its corresponding notch only in one of four orientations (it's rectangular, not round), and the crank itself is relatively fragile.3Bright and SmallI bought all the following items. These items are good to have only as a backup. Throw them in your car or something. However, if you have a few more bucks, spending it on a better product like the solar powered Energizer one is a better idea. These flashlights are weak and very slippery. They can easily fall out of your hands.4Great lightI bought this flashlight as a back up light for construction since I am often in low light environments.- The light is bright enough to use as a close-in spotlight for work in low light situations. It does not throw far very well, spreading out too quickly and there is no lens adjustment.- The small size and light weight is very welcome. It fits well in the palm and feels secure in my grip. I don't notice the slight weight addition to my tool belt.- Recharging is simple and seems to last a long time per effort required. After I use it, I simply wind on it for a few minutes while talking or taking a break and it has never run out of charge. I haven't used it for hours at a time, but for the 30-40 minute job it has worked well.- The winding arm feels a bit flimsy and I wonder how long it will hold up. I would recommend a more robust winding arm with a slightly larger handle/knob to hold onto as the present one is slightly small for larger hands or when wearing gloves.- The carabineer clip is very important to me as I regularly clip this light to my tool belt. I have found that although the carabineer looks large, it really only will accept a small ring. The problem is the solid, red plastic piece does not extend towards the spring loaded clip far enough before the clip starts. This creates the situation where you only have the limited amount of space between the swing radius of the clip and the top of the carabineer hook for your ring to pass the clip so you can get the light back off your ring. I believe the solution is to make the spring clip a touch shorter and the red carabineer hook a touch longer. This will allow you to hook and unhook this light to larger rings and make it easier to unclip it (which is the biggest problem I have with this light).Overall I give 4 stars since I very much like this light, but the slight problems with the flimsy winding arm and the carabineer clip keep me from giving 5, though I still highly recommend this product, especially if you don't plan on using it regularly and won't use the clip.4Indestructible and Passes the Seven Grandsons Durability Test!I bought several of these Energizer Weatheready Flashlights a couple years ago to stock the family bug out bags. It was a whimsical purchase, I have to admit I didn't really think they would work so well. It's turned out to be one of the best purchases I've made in twenty years! We have gone from a family that can never find a flashlight with working batteries when needed to a family who is adeptly prepared whenever the lights go out. My mother now carries one in her truck. I have one clipped to my purse as part of my EDC in addition to the ones in the bug-out bag. These are SUPER for giving to the kids during camping trips. They recharge using a hand crank which means you are never without light. After the first six months or so I bought several more. I have never picked one up, hit the button and not gotten a light, even though I don't regular crank them. I have four kids, two still at home and seven GRANDSONS nine years and under. Even the 2 1/2 year old hasn't been able to break it. If you're looking to stock your bug-out bag or even if you're just a mom who wants reliable flashlights that the kids can't destroy---this is definitely my recommendation!5Great little flashlightThis little flashlight puts out far more light that you expect from something this size. You could easily use it as your regular flashlight for emergencies, camping and so on, and leave the big bulky units behind. The crank function is also top notch. I have yet to "use up" the battery" and I have never cranked it for more than a minute. Although, to be fair, I haven't needed it for long periods of time, no more than a half hour or so. So if you are worried (like I was) about having to recharge the battery every few minutes, don't be. The other day I cranked it up, used it for about twenty minutes or so, set it down and forgot to turn it off. The next morning, the light was still on - over ten hours later! Really dim, but still. I was impressed.I haven't needed the carabineer feature, but I was impressed with how sturdy and substantial it felt. It's not metal, but it is a heavy duty feeling plastic with what feels like a strong spring inside. The crank itself also feels sturdy and well designed overall. This is my second crank flashlight, the first was purchased several years ago, cost three times as much and was a far inferior product.5
